Here's a couple of quick tutorials on making rocks and rock structures with Metablobs.  Made with Jing.

It is a pure and simple joy to use metablobs and displacements without freezing and crashing. I had stopped even trying to use them in V6.  This V7 is feeling very very nice indeed!!

I make a series of custom shaped primitives and save them as .vobs. Long rectangles, flattened cylinders, wide and flat or tall and thin etc. Then just load, duplicate, twirl and blob.

The new Metablobs look far more efficient and fun to use, especially with displacement applied. Thanks for the great tutorials.

Yep, they are.. I never really p0layed with them before, but I had a blast tinkering around with them last night!

One of the great things about your tutorials, is watching your workflow. I've never really much used the 'load functions' command, mostly just dive in. I like it!

Thanks for that, Monsoon, especially as Vue default rocks, are, imho, sucky :D

Point though:

Metablobs screw up with transparent and volumetric materials :/

been same with Bryce way back, sigh.

However, in such cases, say you make a special shape with metablobs, BAKE THEM to a solid mesh, and it should be ok, that's how I built the drool in this beholder's mouth, with metablobs :D
