Subject: Only 2 pages?!?

MatCreator ( ) posted Wed, 07 January 2009 at 6:00 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 9:15 PM

There must be something seriously wrong, I just checked the marketplace for Carrara content to find only 2 pages of products?!?

Slackers!!!

Not only that, but Vue has 13 pages... What does that say about the Carrara Community?!?

What kinds of products would you guys like to see here?!? Anyone have any ideas or needs that are "Carrara only"?!?

I just think its a little weird that Renderosity has so little Carrara content/presets... Im somewhat veclemped over the issue...

No... I am veclemped. Talk amongst yourselves for a while =B

Unfortunately I tried to sell some content, but the marketplace here is not very Carrara friendly.  Yesterday they deleted my most popular item (if you can call 5 sales popular.  The other two will go shortly I am sure. It's not worth creating items to put on the marketplace if no one buys them.  And that ridiculous 3 items in the marketplace max until you sell more than $300 limit is a killer for Carrara stuff since it sells so slow.

If you look through the vue department, you will find that a lot of the "vue" content is poser content, which will import into vue.  By that definition, pretty much all DAZ content (and poser as well) could be cross referenced in the Carrara department.  I think people don't bother because most Carrara users know they can use such content and don't need to find it in a separate department.

From my perspective there is a chicken and egg problem as well.  Some Carrara only content is priced pretty high, no doubt due to the low volume.  But the high prices result in continued low volume of sales, so there seems to be a non-virtuous cycle underway.

I tried to price my models reasonably, so more people could afford them without needing to break open their piggy banks.  I have seen a lot of poser content here and on other sites which are priced ridiculously.  Especially on Turbo Squid.  I'd prefer to get as many folks as possible to be interested in my models than price them so high no one could afford them.  I am trying what to replace the one that got zapped with; If I replace it at all.  I have several models I could package and send up, but if I do, I will not be making them exclusive to here anymore.  Too many restrictions that make no sense whatsoever.  I will probably put the lighthouse model up on another site since Renderosity zapped it after a year.

GKDantas ( ) posted Wed, 07 January 2009 at 8:28 AM

Yeah, you are right Sparrow, I have a pack here for Carrara too and just almost sell like you, I am seriously thinking in close my store here and back to sell at Daz, even I had 2 more packs that same kind there.
Thats why I created the Carrara Lounge site, but its very hard to get people there too. I am doing what I can for Carrara since I know that its is much more then a render engine for Poser content, but I need to feed my kid (and myself) so I need to take a little slow to create the community there like I want to do. I reduced the price of my pack here thinking that I could sell more and buy the store system for Carrara Lounge but only could get the Showroom system that is a simple donation...
Wish I coulkd move people from here to there and from Yahoo lists too..but this will take some time...

Well, if you want content to open a store at the Lounge let me know.  I would love to put some of my better stuff up.  I tried selling on Daz.  One of the guys there, I forget his name told me to send him some renders and they would get back to me.  They never did and I sent like 3 more emails about it, none of which were answered.  So I guess Daz doesn't like my stuff or something.  I did a complete redesign of one of my models last year with the idea of sending it up here, that's when I found out about that 3 items only rule.  A Shame too, I think it would have sold well.  It was a starfighter with some very detailed cockpit details.  I had it all packed up and ready to go.

GKDantas ( ) posted Wed, 07 January 2009 at 8:52 AM

Hi Sparrow, I will love to have your stuff there but I still nedd to make the money for the store module there. There are more 2 users that want to sell there and will be a great place to do that... its simple but did for users.

I just sent up some which haven't been put up anywhere else.  I may stick some of my better older ones up as well.  The latest one is still rendering as we speak.

Your welcome.

MatCreator ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2009 at 3:40 PM

Yes, alot of the content is pretty much Poser stuff imported into the other programs... Thats really sad, Carrara has many features that alot more artists should be taking advantage of.

It is mainly because Carrara is sold at Daz that I opt there 1st, not to mention sales comparisons from there to here with similar products is mindboggling to say the least...

But there should be more here... Alot of varied (and different?!?) users in this community... Im just a little surprised... Carrara is not new by any means, and Daz hasnt had it for "all that long", yet they have alot more content there.

There is also very expensive Poser stuff at MP. I think if you want quality products, then the price may be different. You know, creating, design, tuning, testing may take a very long time. In my case, I stopped doing Poser stuff for a long time to focus exclusively on Carrara; My prices are much lower now - HF

Quality vs price is not as set in stone here as wed like to believe... Some of the best things are VERY inexpensive... I find alot of times people charging too much for common content, smothering the marketplace making it hard to find good things, while discouraging the creation of unique and original content.

Something else Ill admit, its quite embarrassing and hypocritical of me actually, but I havent made a purchase here in in YEARS... I did try to buy the Creature Creator, but it wasnt the full set so I ended up returning the item for a refund... That wouldve broke the 6 maybe 7 year no purchase streak.

Maybe its not necessarily a "Carrara" issue the amount of content in the store as much as it could be a RMP issue... Thats real sad, I love this place, always have.....

Yes Mat, you are right. I'm selling much more products at DAZ with the same price policy. With DAZ you don't have clearance section (makes sense for Poser product only - it's my point of view). They simply have a strong quality and marketing process. On the other hand, I'm a member of Renderosity for about 10 years and I believe that MP could be a great place for selling Carrara products.

I dont have 10 years yet in Renderosity but in age more then you Mat... and like Holy I changed from Lightwave to Carrara just when Daz get it. Now I can do a lot of things like using Poser content, model stuff (ok I really like Hexagon for this task), and a community for Carrara that I am creating with friends help, hope that this website can be a great point for users in the future with many things that others dont have like the showrrom and the free gallery with no upload limits... I am thinking in put a store there too so people that sell here and at his own site can show and sell more too, but only Carrara products.

I'll be 45 on 02/02 and I have been with Carrara since version 2 Of Ray Dream Studio came out way back when, (or was it 3, I keep forgetting).  Anyways, I have seen it evolve through it's many incarnations as Ray Dream Studio, right up to the very polished product it now is.  I don't look at it as a render engine for Poser content.  I see Poser content as a way to avoid having to go through the hassle of designing humanoid figures in Carrara.  I stink at anthro figures, so if I want to add a character to one of my renders, I use a Poser figure.  I will also sometimes use Poser content if I need some small element, like a lamp way in the background as a secondary element in the composition.  It's a huge time saver when you need peripheral components like that.  I would much rather stay purely with Carrara content but I don't want to spend hours or days creating one scene element which isn't that important.

That being said, I think the concept of the Carrara Lounge is great and I really hope it takes off.  I know that I will be one of the first sellers to put up some items when it opens it's store.  I will also be posting all of my future renders there.  Keep up the work GK!

GKDantas ( ) posted Mon, 12 January 2009 at 9:36 AM

Thanks Sparrow, you are right Carrara isnt a render engine for Poser content, but I like the idea to use Poser content and I think that Carrara do a better job them poser. I am more a hobbiest... but I can see the potential for Carrara.

Not to mention I hate shopping here. The store is a mess and you don't have good sorting options.

No need to think outside the box....
    Just make it invisible.

Just go to the Carrara departement, hate will not be so strong :)

I believe it will grow very soon with more than 2 pages, and with quality products...
That will come.

Well, I know I have gotten pretty disillusioned with putting stuff up here.  Between the low file size limits,  And the rules about file limits, it's very difficult to sell Carrara content here.  For one, the marketplace seems to work on the assumption that all content is as relatively small as Poser content.  Carrara files can get very large ifyou include any decent resolution texture maps etc.  And you can get pretty large files even without them if the model is very complex.  And since you can't use rar files, you can't break up the files into more than one volume easily since just the raw .car file is most of the time larger than the single file size maximum they allow.  If they let you use .rar files, you would have a better chance of getting the files to fit into the limits as long as it isn't too complex and you don't include any high resolution textures.  Then there is the 3 item limit which makes absolutely no sense to me at all.  There simply isn't as big a market for Carrara content so to make it worth it at all, you need to put up multiple files and hope for the best.  You simply can't do that here.  The Carrara Lounge is going to be great when it opens it's store.  Since it's is specifically for Poser content, it should be much easier to sell there.
