Subject: Vue Complete or Infinite? I'm confused.

WilberPost ( ) posted Thu, 08 January 2009 at 10:06 AM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 2:05 PM

I'm really excited by the possiblities of the Vue product line, but I'm confused by the wide range of Vue products--and prices.

If money were no object I'd purchase Vue Infinite now, however Vue Complete is several hundred dollars cheaper than Vue Infinite, and therefore looks like a bargain. Unfortunately, the Vue website doesn't offer any direct comparison of features between Vue Complete and Vue Infinite, and I can't figure what these differences are. Can anybody enlighten me?

Thanks!

Hello,

The e-on site has all the info, but it can be hard to find. Use this link to get to a page that allows you to compare Complete with any other version including infinite:

This question has been recently made several times in this forum and it has been a source of very vivid discussions. I suggest that you do a search or just browse a bit through the various threads.

**Rutra,

Sometimes finding the answer to a straightfoward question can be maddenly difficult, even in a quality forum like this. My appreciation goes to thd777 for to providing the information I need for now. However, I look forward to prerusing the other threads you mentioned.**

When you look at the comparison page, scan very carefully through the differences - you can select "show only differences" - make a list of features you would miss by having Complete instead of Infinite, and decide of any of those are "showstoppers" i.e. something you'd really miss.

Another helpful comparison is to compare Vue 6 Infinite to Vue 7 Complete to see what you'd be losing (and gaining of course).

You can fit all three on the graph at once - Vue 6I, 7C and 7I - that's useful too.

For me, the only potential issues with Complete are

  • only 3 levels of undo
  • inflexibility of user interface - I use shortcuts a lot.
  • possibly the limit of 64 rays per pixel in AA

But is that worth $300? It's entirely down to what you want and how you work.

Cheers
Richard

Vue 7 Infinite also comes with a pile of extra plants/trees. So If the extra vegetation interests you, it would cost $200 for the entire plant package from cornucopia which brings the price of complete to within $100 of Infinite. For me i will get Infinite, just saving a few pennies first.

Thank you everybody for your thoughts and information. Yikes! And here I thought the more information I had the easier this decision would be. :)

That's why I said that you should see the other threads... There's much more information there than on the comparison table. ;-)

For example, one thing that could be important for you is the (currently hardly existing) upgrade path from Vue 7 Complete to Vue 7 Infinite, in case you want to do it later. This topic is in discussion in another thread.
There's also another thread with the list of plants with which Infinite and Complete are supplied (in Infinite there's many more, and that can be translated into money, but maybe you already have most of the plants that Infinite has).
Etc, etc, etc.

If you want an informed decision, you should really see the other threads... :-)
