Subject: Procedural brushed metal?

Michael314 ( ) posted Wed, 14 January 2009 at 1:26 PM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 2:58 PM

Hello,
does anyone have a procedural shader for brushed metal for Poser 6 or 7?

I searched Acadia's great directory and did not find one, then tried to make one myself,
based on Tabala's chiffon material, but the ripples just don't look right.
The only thing I'm quite sure is that I need an anisotropic node for the reflections.

Any help welcome,
   Michael

If you have Aery Soul's "White Rose", the material on the metal jewellery pieces makes an excelllent procedural metal, and looks brushed/textured.  You can apply it to any object.

My self-build system - Vista 64 on a Kingston 240GB SSD, Asus P5Q Pro MB, Quad 6600 CPU, 8 Gb Geil Black Dragon Ram, CoolerMaster HAF932 full tower chassis, EVGA Geforce GTX 750Ti Superclocked 2 Gb, Coolermaster V8 CPU aircooler, Enermax 600W Modular PSU, 240Gb SSD, 2Tb HDD storage, 28" LCD monitor, and more red LEDs than a grown man really needs.....I built it in 2008 and can't afford a new one, yet.....!

My Software - Poser Pro 2012, Photoshop, Bryce 6 and Borderlands......"Catch a  r--i---d-----e-----!"

try runtimedna freestuff , they had a lot of textures that are procedural.

in carrara, the brushed aluminium shader is just done with a bump channel that
uses fractal noise to generate the deviation of the normals needed to get that
sort of specular effect.  I looked for "brushed" and "aluminium" in poser manual:
0 results.

if you get the v4 warrior in the free stuff it has great procedurals.

Hello,
thanks a lot for the helpful hints.   I had searched the Poser 5, 6, 7 Materials sections  on Renderosity freestuff already, and did not find anything as I wanted.
The brushed metal from the V4warrior outfit indeed is the closest match I got, thank you
very much for that hint!  Its mirroring is still too detailed, but I guess I can tweak that a bit.

I will keep you updated once I have the material I searched.

Best regards,
   Michael

Here is a discussionat the node cult at RDNA about metal and more, with some procedural shaders . (of Baggingsbill of course 😄)

Here's one for 3ds Max that might give some hints as to how to do something similar with Poser shaders. DPH
