I don't know if I'm just unlucky or one really stupid person but I have a constant problem.

Everyday I do one tutorial for Poser, Vue, XaraXatreme and Hexagon....a new year's resolution.  The problem is that 80% of the time, my programs don't work like they do in the videos or tutorials.  So far only Poser has not given me any problems.

Here's an example and I would love a solution to this one if anyone knows the answer.  In this Geekatplay video http://www.geekatplay.com/tutorials/vulcan/  he is making a volcanic island.  When he first starts he changes his island to a procedural and also mentions adding stones (you can see him click on the stones button).  He gets a fine dusting of stones about the mountain.

Well, everytime I've added stones, I get a very strange and tall structures.  Always have so I don't use stones but I see that they should not be tall and large.  I tried making my mountain different sizes but it doesn't matter.  Anyone know why my stones don't work properly?  This is the kind of thing I run into almost everytime I do a tutorial and it doesn't matter which program.

Vue6Infinite latest build.

Second thing that happened yesterday is that his material had the red section at the top, blue in the middle and green on the lowest.  My material had the red at the bottom, then green and blue.

I tried to recreate that today but it work like his video and I got red at the top, blue in the center and green at the bottom.  I have not idea what I did differently today other than I didn't change it to object parametric.

Well, I haven't seen the vid, but maybe he is using a small size brush, whereas you click on the stone effect button?

In the mixed material that selects either the blue or the green, reverse the order of the materials by using the Swap button.

The size of the stones depends on the resolution of the terrain. In this tutorial (which I watched now a little bit just to see what you meant) Vladimir starts by increasing the resolution to 1024x1024. Did you also do that? It's not the size of the mountain that matters, it's the resolution.

Bruno, MyCat and Rutra, thank you for helping me with this.  I appreciate all feedback.

So size does matter? ;)  Rutra, I had not tried that but I just did and it worked wonderfully.  First I brought in a standard terrain, the resolution and it worked.  Then I brought in a procedural and upped the resolution and it worked as well.  Thank you for the suggestion.

The swapping works for the green and blue but it was the red that gave me fits.  I thought I heard Vlad say the word 'swap' but I replayed it over and over and really couldn't understand what he said.  The red doesn't matter anymore as I applied materials to zones where needed and got a very nice material.  It does change the way it looks depending on which terrain it is on but perhaps that is due to the fact I didn't change it to object parametric.  I don't know for sure.

Thanks again for the help.
