Subject: Rendering using Spotlight Problem

Jam_Inc ( ) posted Wed, 14 January 2009 at 8:47 AM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 2:40 AM

Hi all

Since getting Poser 7 I have had problems with rendering characters using spotlights, black backgrounds and Firefly rendering.
Using Firefly and spotlights, I have tried to use spotlights on characters faces to create light and shade, but when the render is complete I can still see the whole outline of the characters even when some areas should be hidden in shade. It appears as a brownish outline.
Can anyone help me with what I am doing wrong as it is ruining renders where I just want half the face showing.

Thanks in advance

Could you show us a render or image of your problem.  It will visually help us to determine the correct measures to solve your problem.

You probably have a shader on your figure. Many skin shaders (including some I wrote a long time ago) introduce some built-in "glow", either attempting to compensate for the lack of gamma correction in Poser (darker areas look too dark) or trying to simulate subsurface scattering. This is usually a dark red-brown color that is being added.

You didn't say which figure and which shader so I can't give advice without that info. If you show me a screen shot of one of the skin material zones, I will be able help.

Hi all

Thanks for the replies

Please see attached render area showing the problems I am getting. It seems to happen after I apply new character textures to characters. This is M4 and Daz3d Beck texture.
Any ideas??

J

Yes I already told you my ideas. Many characters come with shaders. Some of these shaders have brown glow built into them. You have to show me the shader. Then I can show you how to modify the shader to make it stop.
