Subject: Vue7 Complete Upgrade and Activation

Hdrider ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2009 at 10:41 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:53 PM

Okay, I upgraded from Vue6i to Vue7 Complete and after going through the bs of the activation routine (exhausting all of my activation trys ... that's another story) I used the auto update from the program to get the newest version. That worked fine but now it's asking me for the activation code again. When I type in the act code at startup, it says it is invalid.

What's the deal? Do you have to re-activate on every upgrade? Also, how many is the "limited" times for activation?

My opinion. Eon's new way of activation is really ass-backwards.

Any and all help appreciated.

I'm thinking you are on Vista?  Vista "protects" against writing things to the Windows folder or Program files folder, so Vue cannot write the reg code.  You must run as administrator, which is different then giving a program administrator rights.  Right-click on the exe icon and select Run as Administrator.  I would also turn off the UAC in Vista.

I'm running Vue7c on a WinXp32 machine at the moment. Haven't yet made the "jump" to 64 bit but soon. One headache at a time. I'm logged in as administrator. I tried to figure out where Vue7c hides the trigger for the activation code but couldn't find it.

That brings up another question. When I upgrade to a new computer/64bit OS, will I have to reinstall Vue ?

Anyways, I have a support ticket at Eon for this. I should hear back from them in a year or so.

XP 32 bit will also allow you to Right-Click the Desktop Icon of Vue and Run as Admin, the way Peggy stated above.

Of course you will. Anytime you purchase a new Comp you will have to install ALL your programs.

The 64 bit version of Vue will need a new activation code anyway. I had no problems moving from 32 bit to 64 bit. Install Vue to its own folder in the root directory (or anywhere else outside of the Program files folders) and it won't trigger the UAC and you won't need to run as administrator, which is a much safer option to disabling the UAC (its there for a reason).

Could be your virus protection is messing with the installation.  Vue needs to write a reg file to C:Windows.  If it can't, then every time you start, it thinks it needs to be activated.

Okay, I found the reg file in the windows folder. Does it have to be installed in the registry or does Vue just use it as is ?

This must be my lucky day! I just recieved an email form Eon saying they reset my activations. I'm going to have to eat my words about the year delay 8-) ... happily.

Thanks...

Okay, thanks for all the advice. I'm going to mull it over and give it a couple of days to cool down...the program also.
