Subject: How to...??? Change a A3 skin texture to use it on a V3 & V4 character

ccbig ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2009 at 6:04 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 9:58 PM

Can anyone help walk me through this?

I have several A3 realistic textures I would like be able to use with my V3 and V4 figures.

Are there any tutorials or would someone be kind enough to help me with this.

This would be for my own use and not for items for sale.

Aiko 3 and V3 more or less uses the same texture. YOu'll have to apply some of the leg textures manually, that's about it.

for V4 OTOH.. she's mapped completely different. You'll need Texture Convertor for that. :)

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

I've been using Texture Convertor 2 avialable over at Daz. Does a very nice job. Huge time savings over manually trying to refit a texture.

How would I apply the leg textures manually?

Does Texture Converter 2 work on a Mac?

Most 3rd party programs seem to be for PCs only. grumble

Just did a quick check, TC2 not for Mac. So much for that idea. As for using A3 on V3 the texture maps are the same but A3 has two material zones for the legs where V3 only has one. This means that if you try to apply a mat pose from A3 to V3 the legs will not have the texture applied. Just go to the material room, copy the Image Map node from SkinTorso to SkinLeg and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.

I don't think there is a MAC version for TC2.

There's always Boot Camp, assuming your Mac has an Intel processor. I think, I have no experience with Macs.

That is a very helpful idea. I will try that out. Thank you.

So I am guessing that will not work when it comes to using a A3 texture and trying to use it on V4 because they are so different.

I checked also and I could not find any Mac versions. What a shame considering how many new Mac users there are now.

I have had boot camp for a a while (not installed) but have not gotten around to buying a new hard drive or buying Windows yet. I do not want to split my hard drive and install Windows on the same drive I have my Mac OS on. I want to keep them as separate as possible.

That is a option for the future though. I just think it is a shame that venders continue to ignore Mac users.

Considering the Mac forte is graphics ya it is a little puzzling..... but then I'm still on Windoze.
Have you heard of Virtual Box.  It's a free virtual machine package by Sun. Lets you set up any OS which can then be used as a desktop app. from within your main OS. I have it and have used it on my XP machine to try out things without the need to add drives or partition drives. Might be worth a look.

The same problem remains that Windows even if only as a desktop app is on the same drive as my Mac OS. I'm sure it would likely not be a problem but I just feel much more comfortable about keeping them as separate as possible. I have plenty of room in my tower for more drives. So I will probably eventually take the long way around.

It's pretty easy to apply A3 textures to V3.

  1. Load V3

2.  Inside Poser, go to the Pose folder in the library and apply the A3 texture that you want.  Here is a screen shot of V3 after I applied Patchouli for A3. You will notice that the texture applied with the exception of the legs.

Next, click on the material room tab.
  1.  Right click in the material working area and pick "select all". Then right click again and pick "copy"

  2.   Then  browse to the material zone of the legs.

  3.  Right click in the working area again and pick "paste"

You will end up with this:

TC might run under Darwine, which doesn't require a copy of Windows....

I haven't tried TC2 under Wine, so I can't comment on how well it works.

Cheers,

Rod
