Subject: couple of eco distribution/function editor questions

lightning2911 ( ) posted Tue, 03 February 2009 at 10:14 AM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 7:20 PM

inspired by chipp walters metapeeps i want to create children peeps and populate a kindergarten playground with them.

to warm up i started playing with eco systems and distribution control.

ver1

here i used the checkerboard pattern to make the trees go where i want them to ... that was fairly easy. now ...

ver2

... here i wanted to control different plant. so i used the leopard pattern und added a 3color thingie for color map of the underlying plain. for the tree and bushes i used separate eco layers each replicating the leopard pattern and then converting that to 3color output, then converting color to brightness and the using filtering to "cut out" the color that i want to use as a mask to the plant distribution.

question 1: is this overly complicated? can i do this easier?**
question 2:** can i use color patterns from other layer so that i am using the same basis or do i have to replicate this basis every time?

and then next ...

ver3

now i added the metapeep eco, modified the distribution so that the people clump together. now the clumping looks fine but the people go everywhere (even into the bushes and trees).

question3: can i and if yes how can i control where the people go in general (the light ground color area done with my leopard pattern, like i used before) and with that area i want them to clump (with some other pattern like done in the metapeep eco material)?

thanks in advance
chris

In density tab set the Sampling quality to 100-200%. So the objects stay inside your density area. For the density I use a simple bitmap created in photoshop or any bitmap program. This is much easier to control than use procedural patterns.

So I add layer over layer... with full control.

Finally I add some crowd. With 'Affinity with layer' I say stay away from the grass. :)

LOL ... I love the penguins!!! i think i have to make a "blopper" image for sales department with penguins :)

thanks for the oversampling tip. that was new for me.

using images to control placement is also useful. but my questions were partly also asked to learn and understand the function editor better. so even if placing the little guys works better with images i am still interested if i can implement the above strategies better than i have done.

At geekatplay.com are very useful tutorials for function editor. See tutorial 5 --> 16 on my link.

About the sampling quality! In Vue 6.6 the default sampling is at 93%. E-on changed that in Vue7 to 43% default. That irritated many user. :glare: Because the eco population didn't look the same as as before. 😄
