Subject: Tutorials for new product creators?

riquid ( ) posted Wed, 04 February 2009 at 8:03 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 12:31 AM

Hello out there!
I've been working with poser for quite a while and I think I'm ready to move to the next level and start selling products on renderosity.

I was wondering if there were any good tutorials or other resources that might help me with some of the details about creating a product that I might not have thought about.  I wouldn't want to create something that wasn't up to par with the rest of the stuff on Rendersity after all.

Thanks~

The best thing you can do is to offer some freestuff items first. It will give you invaluable practice in packaging the stuff up; you can gauge people's reaction to what you make; and if it proves popular, you'll have a good reputation you can build upon when you do go commercial.

I do hope that you understand that these 2 have nothing in common...
Working with poser and making 3D content..

Thats like : well i ride by bike for quite a while... now im ready to build a Highway...
There is nothing in poser that has any conection to building things in 3D..

So you have to learn a whole new craft that will take you years to be good at.
And to reach a high level quality products will take even longer..

So go and Buy Silo or Modo or HEX .. and start learning.... there even Free tools...
Tut that you seek are for the modeling tool specific...
You cant "MAKE" anything in poser

Statement by the artist - cherokee69 - aka Stan

*"This is a project I had started back in March 2005. Been working on it part time ever since. I used old photos and measurements from the actual house..which I currently live in. It's a model of my grandparents home as it was in the 1940's when I mother was a child growing up there. It's built piece by piece as a real house would be. All doors and windows open and are rigged. It started out in Poser 4 and was finished in Poser 6. It's all done in Poser using Poser primatives and Doc Geeps Magic Box and Doc Geeps Scale (DGS). It's all Poser except for the rocking chair from Sams3D and the bushes and Infinity Cove from RDNA.

Hope you enjoy and as Doc Geeps say's 'All things are possible in Poser'."

note - underlines added by Doc.*

Remember ... "With Poser, all things are possible, and poseable!"

cheers,

Riquid, I don't know if you plan to model something new or if you're more into texturing existing items.... but if I understand you correctly, why not peeking into the marketplace wishingwell?

I knew that was coming as soon as Barcode said 'can't make things in Poser'...;)

Try Wings 3d, anim8tor, Blender, or other free programs to get used to the idea of modeling in general. If you find you have the knack, try silo, hexagon, or something like that next.

There's forums for Wings, Uvmapping (putting on textures...sorta...;), and especially a modeling forum here at the site. Stop by, ask questions, get answers.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

With all due respect for Doc Geep. It probably would have been more accurate for the original quoted person to say "You can't make Marketable Items" in Poser. Yeah you can make a lot of stuff with Poser's included primative's, but as far as selling them goes, that's a different story, If you're making things out of the geometry's that are included with Poser. Those items are being made with geometry files that have not been licensed for use in remarketing. Yes, they're primatives and most any 3D Modeling program starts out with primatives. But the original geometries in Poser are not licensed for resale.

That would be like taking Poser 6 James and creating something else from his orginal geometry. It's just not the proper route to go.

Not that you guys are saying anything that isn't true, but I have to ask...

What did riquid say that makes you think the hypothetical product involves a new model?

Quote - I'm ready to move to the next level and start selling products on renderosity. I was wondering if there were any good tutorials or other resources that might help me with some of the details about creating a product ...

Nothing said about the nature of the "product".

There's a bazillion "products" in the marketplace that are nothing more than a merchant resource texture map kit, slightly modified in color using Photoshop hue/sat/levels or something, and a few dial-twists to make a new face, and maybe a fatter/skinnier figure.

Not that I'm impressed by that, but perhaps other people are. Given how many of such things are out there, it would make a lot of people think they could do that, too. I'm sure this idea occurs to most "intermediate" Poser users, as soon as they get past the stage where they are stumbling about.

Meanwhile, perhaps riquid is actually better than 90% of the merchants in the store, and is actually a future superstar just starting out.

But what do I know - I've never even tried to sell anything.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
