Subject: Save cloth animation (as pose?)

shareone ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2009 at 6:36 AM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 2:48 PM

Hi,

I'm trying to make a clip of Maddie dancing. Why? why not!
I created Maddie's dance animation (4 minutes of animation!), then added a dynamic dress and let Poser calculate the dress moves. So far so good.
Can I save the dress animation? the dress is a prop and Poser doesn't allow creating a pose file from a prop. I would like to keep the animated dress as a muti-frame (animation) pose file.
Is it possible? how?

Please advice...

Four minutes of animation is epic!

When you save the scene file the cloth simulation should save as well.  You shouldn't have to re-simulate the dynamic cloth again.  As far as saving the cloth pose I don't think that is possible.  I cheat sometimes and export the dynamic cloth as an OBJ file.  With the character in pose, re-import the Wavefront object and parent it to the character's chest.  Then you can save it to the prop library ...

As far as saving a pose for a prop I don't think that is possible.

Love to see your animation,

Just had a thought.  If you were to export a number of the cloth variations and re-import them as morph targets into the original cloth - or a neutral version of the thing - then you could apply the morphs to go along with the figure's pose.  Those COULD be saved to the pose library along with the figure.  A prop's relationship to the figure its parented to IS saved the pose library.  Any morphs, by default, would be saved as well.

Best Wishes,

The problem with "smooth" animation is that every frame is an animation key, so exporting number of cloth variations will not maintain the animation. Maybe there is a script to convert dyn file (dynamic cloth/hair) to poser pose file (pp2 I think).

I can make a preview animation just to show you the "moves" because I didn't even pick the textured caracter I'll use. OR, you can check the attahced animation I did with the same technic.
In the new one I was thinking to use dynamic hair as well (as you can see in the attached the hair animation is not good enough), but I'm having troubles in this part too.

If anyone can help with the "saving dynamic cloth animation as pose file" please do.
Thanks,
  Sharon

That's pretty awesome.  I love to see working dynamics.  I think people don't animate, or make animations, because it takes so long and ties up the computer for so long.  I've created a number of animations, mostly from patching together BVH files and Poser pose files.  I'm working on two animated pose sets now, both starting from scratch.  It's pretty hard just to get a character to walk across the floor!

Do you know CQ2?  It's a flim out of Canada, I think.  French.  Your animation reminds me a bit of that film.

Well, keep up the good work.

In answer to your original query .. NO you cant save a poser cloth simulation as an animated pose file
that would require the ability to "bake the cloth sim to a PLA (point level animation)
poser has no such ability.

Wolf, do you know, or have you used, truePose?  It was a plugin that worked on the trueSpace end.  Once could export a number of animated frames from Poser (4 I think) and truePose would import those OBJ files into a trueSpace animated sequence.  The whole thing was kind of clunky, saving all of those Wavefront objects, but as I recall it worked fairly well.  The two programs really didn't mesh up very well and there was always material work that needed to be done to make the figures render properly in trueSpace.  Still ...

I generally export out simulated cloth to OBJ and then re-import it to save it for a certain drape.  I've had varying degrees of luck importing them back in as morph targets.

This is such a fun hobby.

Be Well,

Thanks for your help. The need for saving the cloth animation was due to the fact I can't use the cloth animation in Cinema (interPoser doesn't import it).
Maybe I'll just learn to clothify in Cinema...

Rance01, the animation is was created using Daz's plugin aniMate.
It helps creating smooth animations, but it is limited to the packages available.
I started to convert BVH files but they require a lot of work in Poser so I stopped.

Thanks again

Hmmm if you have the mocca module with clothilde you have a world class cloth engine thats lightyears ahead of posers anyway so yes  learn to use
the C4d cloth.
