Subject: Feathers for textures? Anyone?

JetM ( ) posted Wed, 04 July 2001 at 5:06 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 6:10 AM

Trying my hand at texture mapping and I wanted to put some feathers in. Can't find any good pictures of single feathers, though. I've scoured the internet on bird sites, but nothing useful. Anyone else found some?

heyas; once upon a time, long long ago, somebody made some scans of feathers and posted an image to be used as/in textures. hmmm... normally, i use real feathers for reference. you could also try an eyewitness book on birds; they would probably have individual feathers. in fact, i recall seeing them laid out in the book on birds of prey.

I've been looking for feather pics myself and haven't been able to find them.

yes please! (do I seem anxious?) Those are fab, Fryene! Where'd you get them?

Fyrene ( ) posted Wed, 04 July 2001 at 10:35 PM

I actually use PSP but saved these in PSD format cause Photoshop cant open PSP files. You can find stuff like this in PSP tubes. I think I have over 600 megs of tubes of anything and everything you can imagine LOL :)) Glad you like them, and looking forward to whatever your planning to use them for.

Hey Fyrene, why don't you post some of your tubes in Free Stuff under 2D. I'm sure there's a ton of us Paint Shop Pro users who'd love them s (or a link in the psp forum would be good hint hint) BTW ... The feathers are gorgeous. Thanx for sharing :)

I keep meaning to upload my tubes to my domain, but Im soooo lazy about doing it LOL I will post free tubes as you mentioned from time to time :) Need anything in particular?? :)

Run in the same problem for the texture of the Angelyna-Wings. I find some on Native American Online-Stores. Have attached a link where you find a few from different birds. SHARKEY

Thanx Sharkey, there's some great feather pics there :) Fyrene, the only thing I need these days is a bigger hard drive s Any and all tubes for me :) I'm a hoarder. Love collecting stuff, even if I never use it LOL

Oooooh...Thank you for the feathers. They are wonderful!! I think I will try to model a cockatoo ;)

HandspanStudios ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2001 at 6:11 PM

Fyrene, those are nice tubes, I have trouble finding ones that aren't cartoons. The photo ones I've found are actually pretty useful but so hard to wade through all those care bears ;-)to find them. Any recomendations?

JetM ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2001 at 9:12 PM

Very cool! Thanks Fryene and Sharkey. These should give me a very good base to work with. Actually, it's Sharkey's wings that I'm looking to try my hand at. A bit of non-white textures.

JetM ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2001 at 9:25 PM

Can you use Paint Shop Pro tubes in any other program? Can they be converted to Corel PhotoPaint image lists? Am I asking this in the wrong forum?

Fyrene ( ) posted Thu, 05 July 2001 at 9:49 PM

Here is a url for finding tubes. Some links broken: http://www.angelfire.com/ky/kandykizz/psp.html Here is a really good site with great tubes. Most sites you go to will have a links section to other sites. I have a bajillion bookmarks for tube sites :) http://grendels.8m.com/pages/tubes.htm To Handspun: I know what you mean. I dont like the cartoonish ones or the scanned cartoon tats that a lot of people do. There are a couple of great tubes newsgroups that I visit. One is called Annexcafe and the other is Flameless Tubers. If you like, I will post the url to those newsgroups.

JetM, Ulead's Photo impact converts tubes, I don't use it much anymore though, I prefer psps because I can cerate an empty layer with it, something PI can't do.

You can do some great PSP tubes from your Poser characters. Simply save as a .tiff file in Poser (important to do it in Poser cause it won't work after the fact). Open the .tiff file in PSP, Select, Load from alpha. That will put the marching ants around your image, then you can copy and paste into a new transparent canvas. There wont be any jaggies and none of the background color you use will be there :)

Usefull advice. I made quite a few tubes and blade pro presets about a year ago, some of which are even good, but haven't gotten around to posting them yet. It's nice to know there's still some interest maybe it'll help me get around to it. They are looking for tips and techniques in the PSP forum, maybe you should repost this info over there?
