Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 07 11:07 am)
Which characters are you using? If you're using Michael and Vicki, you need to apply transparency to the upper eyebrows. Same with hair, if it's a transmapped hair object. Make sure the sliders in the materials are set min and max to 100% and that the transparency map is in the lower righthand box in the materials area. I hope this helps some. Melanie
Welcome! I am by no means the Poser artist that others here are, but in addition to Melanie's comments (with which I am in full agreement), I would add the following. If you are using the standard P4 characters that came with the program, you'll need a good texture to get realistic eyebrows. I would recommend searching the Free Stuff here for the "Vickybuster" texture, which is a realistic texture for the regular P4 nude woman. Hair is another ballpark; it takes more than a texture to get realistic looking hair. If you are indeed new to Poser, you may not get Melanie's reference to "transmapped hair." (If you do get it, I apologize in advance for explaining it.) Basically, some very clever Japanese Poser users developed multi-layer hair models that allow for the application of transparency maps (and if you don't know what those are, they are explained in the Poser 4 manual that comes w/the software and serves as the help guide). It is this innovation that gives you realistic hair, rather than the plastic helmet look. Although DAZ3D (the company that makes the figures that come with Poser 4) and others have also adopted this technique, Kozaburo, Yamato and others still produce the most amazing hair models (IMHO). And the best part is, Koz etc. give them away for non-commercial use! So my advice to you is to go to the green column of links on the right side of this page, to the "Web Ring Top 15." Click on "Digital Babes." That's Kozaburo's site. You don't have to have to have the Japanese character set (your browser may ask if you want it) to read the site, either. From the front page of the site, click on "Downloads and Tutorial." You'll be able to get your own copies of the fantastic hair models most of the folk here use, and discover how it's done with the tutorial. Kozaburo also has texture and transparency maps for the hair models sold by DAZ3D/Zygote.
Howdy Again! From the image you uploaded, it appears that you are using one of the characters that comes with Poser 4, as opposed to characters such as Victoria and Michael, which are sold by DAZ3D. Melanie's suggestion about eyebrow transparency only applies to Victoria, Michael, etc., who have a different head design. Her suggestion generally does not work with the standard characters. Search the Free Stuff for "vickybuster." The original version that I have looked great, but it looks like the latest version has some sort of eyebrow transparency, so I may have to download it again myself! Happyworldland (found in the renderosity web ring) also had some good free textures, though not as detailed as the vickybuster. One possible hitch: I have been writing about female texture maps. I could not tell if you were using the regular P4 male or the regular P4 female. I can't think of a good free male texture offhand, though someone else here may know of one. Hope this helps... kbade
Mike and Vicki are sold through DAZ3D. They're very much more versatile than the standard P4 figures in that they have more morphs, higher resolution, and just better looking all around. Some people consider them a bit spendy, but actually they're well worth the cost because you get much more realistic renders with them. Melanie

You have to buy them. They're at DAZ. You would not regret buying them, however, becuase they're so much more versatile than the standard P4 figures. Victoria is now in her second generation (Victoria 2) and I believe a Michael 2 in on the way in the near future. Link above. Click on Store. Michael and Victoria have their own sections.
