Well I have to say it is an good review but does not at all reflect the downloadable Demo version so it makes exploring the app prior ro purchacing [a big concern for the impoverished] iffy...sigh
The flow maps work very well so far in TG2...finally figured out how to generate them thanks to your tute.. ...

What are the advantages of GeoControl 2 over GeoControl 1? Having already purchased World Machine and GeoControl 1, I wonder if GeoControl 2 is still unfinished. It was my intention to purchase GeoControl 2 when it allows for tile-able terrains, but it has been a long wait. The creator of the software suffered an accident or illness and all progress stopped for about a year. Has anything new been added to GeoControl 2 recently?

There are a few new features in GC2 that, in my opinion, make a world of difference: isolines, rivers & lakes tool, vector tools. There are also new erosion modes, which are very, very good.
With isolines you can model your terrains in a very intuitive way. Just do some freehand drawing and see the terrain gain life. Very nice.
With rivers & lakes tools, you can, well, create rivers and lakes. :-) Just place a spring and watch the river go down a hill, create a lake in the bottom, etc. Very nice.
With the vector tool, you can create roads in and around your terrain.
These 3 features alone are worth, in my opinion, the upgrade price.
Hm, I got World Machine 1 and 2, but found them very hard to use
This seems much more friendly, thanks Paula :)

Sorry. I finally went the distance and allowed all the images in the review to load (that takes a while on a 56k connection.) It is a good review and the results of GeoControl 2 certainly look amazing. It would have been better had I merely asked if GeoControl 2 has introduced terrain tiling yet? I assume the answer is no. Still, I was tempted to upgrade and probably would have done so, but I've forgotten my account password and it's impossible to get the system to send it to me. Every time I type the spam-prevention code along with my e-mail address, the system rejects me. Now I'm content to go on waiting.

Proper terrain tiling would split a large, continuous terrain into quads that could be exported and reassembled seamlessly in Vue. This is useful if you need to design a very specific terrain that will be seen from the air. I'd like to take a map I've drawn of a fictional continent and recreate some portion of it (if not everything) in GeoControl 2. In order to do this, I'd need overlays for the placement of terrain features and tiling to bring it into Vue.

I just finished a review of GeoControl2. I love it and think it is a fabulous program.
