Tara, I like that shot.  Glad your feeling better, too!

Piet, here ya' go!  My third one.  I have now successfully completed the challenge.

I'll tell you, you guys have got me running around at two o'clock in the morning with a camera.  If I get arrested, I'm telling the cops it's Rendo's fault!  Lol!!

BTW, this is my first successful attempt at merging multiple exposures into an HDR.  What fun!

Can't wait for next month's challenge.

**Adam, Poetess Viz Carin, gosh all a lot of lovely shots in here, I been missing some bots too, but I was juggling e mail servers and may have missed them that way, this is all such a rip roaring sucsees shazza, You da Gal!!!!

Sorry to anyone I didn't include here, but your shots were looked at.
Now all I have to do is sit back and wait for them bots to cruise into the new e mail :)

A plasma globe is a fun thing Shazza, you can run your hands all over them, and get some funky lightning effects :)**

I've been thinking about different lighting setups, after the computer screen / candle / table lamp combo, and then the computer screen / flashlight combo.

Today the SUN came out!!!

I'd forgotten all about that.

:)

Who knows what I'll come up with for my third shot??

Lovin' what everybody is doing here.  I never get around to mentioning them all, but I'm having SUCH a good time!

Next time you pick a topic that's this fun, Shari, could you make it in a month with 31 days, instead of 28???

Meowgli ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2009 at 9:21 PM

some more great images, and Piet I'm flattered you would link to one of my gallery images by means of example, thank you. Carin the first time I scrolled through your 2 recent images I thought they were a continuation of one another, I really got a sense that the first one was some glass hanging, and the second one was it falling to the floor and smashing! I know that wasn't the case but it really created a strong impression in my head for some reason! both are nice shots btw, the second has the edge in my opinion ;)
the plasma ball was cool too and I very much like Tara's glass container - very nice low key compo and reflected light.... good stuff all round!

I agree with everybody's comments above...I've been goofing off elsewhere and seem to have missed some bots too...but after a thorough review of everybody's entries...all I can say is WOW.

There's a lot of ideas here we can all use in the future for "out front" stuff. I have never tried the flashlight (torch) routine...looks simple and it yields excellent results. But you should see the sorry state of my flashlight...weak, weak glow. Gotta get some new batteries in the morning!

I'm saving my third posting for something special...only I have no idea what it will be either. LOL! I'll be back.

LOL @ Mike and cops

You are welcome Adam, I was hoping while things are slow in here, other photographers would also add some links of deserving uploads illustrating the challenge criteria.

Like this one, does it illustrate good criteria for the challenge?
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1831751

I have just seen uploads inspired by the challenge: Ronnie's, Tara's, Mike's - sorry if I missed anybody who has done the same. These are excellent examples.

We are waiting for your upload Bill, don't stay away too long my friend.

I'd say that one works pretty well Piet, lighting is definitely the subject, especially as everything is a little blurred...  I'll keep my eyes open for links to ones which may work well for the challenge, up til this point I've just been commenting on the images themselves that they'd be good for the challenge...

Oooohh!  Nice examples, Adam.

I have a young friend who has joined RR here recently.  I had no idea he was a photographer when I met him.  He was just a nice young man who is dating my niece.  :)  His whole gallery is about light!

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?username=derekjgarcia

I did mention the thread to him, but he works and has a lot of friends (oh ... like ... he has a LIFE, unlike some of us old farts! LOL!) so he's not here every day.

I'm still working on ideas for my third post back here.

Here's my LAST entry...stopped off at a local Bar & Grill with my girlfriend tonight.  While sitting at the bar, all the neon lights were creating this cool glow and reflecting on the bar surface.  Took out my LG DARE (phone) and captured the light show! Even got her  BEER!

Love that shot Ralph, great effect.

Joe, amazing shot from a phone camera, they are getting better & smaller all the time.

Like the idea of the links Piet, will have to try my hand at doing that when perusing the gallery.

And another pat on the back to you, Sheri, this is a very good challenge, you're going to really have to work at it to top it for next month's challenge (not to put any pressure on ya, just commenting)

OH, and Happy Valentines to y'all!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...

So where do they go when a photograph leaves you speechless?

Awesome Joe, and the place has such an atmosphere.

Ralph that upload is one of the most intriguing ones to date. Very creative my friend, keep it up.

I checked on the links and they are very good examples. It's hard to isolate one but I agree with Ronnie on Garlor's You should encourage Derek to come and play here Tara.

Adam, it seems many of us had some health problem. Tara and I seem to be over the worse, I hope you get well soon.

Keep the good work going guys, or show us the ones in the galleries, pertaining to lighting which you like.

EDIT: Indeed Poetess, the way I know Shari she is already casting the next plot for the forum. Sometimes I am lucky to get a sneak preview on the material ( gosh! now everyone knows why I have material ready to upload soon after the forum is announced! ) but have not seen anything yet. Good luck Shari, it is indeed fun in here.

Happy Valentine's to all!

** This challenge is going along beautifully .. thanks to all of you who make it this huge success!  You make me beam with pride!!!

I have ALWAYS wanted to know how to paint with light .. I've seen some very creative things done with that technique ... and have done some reading on it, but  I stopped myself short when I could not find the BULB setting on my Nikon.

It's thanks to Piet for giving me the push and shove to pursue it and see it to the end.  :)

I thought this was appropriate for this challenge .. as well as the fact that it is Valentine's Day.  My first attempt at PAINTING WITH LIGHT ... :-)  It was a lot of fun, and I intend on doing a lot more once the sun goes down here lol

Several of you have seen this photo as part of Piet's Birthday Greetings.

Set up my oranges...eh, Piet's oranges, turned on my flashlight (torch), illuminated two of the Cuties, dowsed the kitchen lights and took my photos...manual mode, tripod, etc.

So simple...have seen Tara, Ronnie and a few others use this technique...but first time for me.

Hey Bill, you're up quite late to upload, good stuff all round, not just because it was also the dedi to me. It focuses light where it belongs but also includes supplementary info in the otherwise negative space to the left. If I am not mistaken Ronnie and Tara used this technique on headphones.

As you can see, "some people" started having a ball up here...
:b_rolleyes:

Excellent way to peak your 3rd upload. Now just don't desert us in the 2 weeks left... Sweet dreams!

auntietk ( ) posted Sun, 15 February 2009 at 3:19 AM

I used the flashlight setup with the headphones I posted in my gallery, and a glass jar with sand and shells I posted back here.  (There's a third one still waiting in the wings.)

Ronnie says he doesn't own a flashlight.  Whatever low light setup he used for his headphone shot was something else.  (He was tweaking me about shooting headphones, not about the lighting setup.)  :)

There are so many wonderful ways to do low light!  Ronnie taught me the first one I used (shooting coins and thimbles and bells and whatnot).  That one used a table lamp three feet to the right of the subject and up a bit, with a cardboard or newspaper reflector to the left.  I've played around on my own with a few others.

I love seeing what other people are coming up with, and how they're using setups that we've talked about back here.  That's what this is all about!

Yay!  :)

I still haven't decided what I'm going to do for my third shot, but the month is only half over.  I'll decide in time, don't worry!  :)

Spot on Tara, almost a copy of the email I sent you :)..Yep, I have not actually painted with light proper, except for a few experiments, from pointers I had got from Adam (meowgli)..and then I lost those experiments through my usual laziness of not backing up, and had a crashdown that led to having to re-tattoo the system to factory default, I now back things up daily :)

Bill your experiment is great, terrific results my friend.
Tara hon, my zippo experiments were not as fruitfull as I hoped, Shazza and I were trying differing "bulb" setting methods and Shari has it taped that's dor sure, I need to get a little maglight, maybe tomorrow :)
