tantarus, what is BodyPaint? I thought CS4 Extended had the ability to paint on a model built-in. I just got CS3 a little over a year ago, but I regret not getting the Extended version. I wasn't going to upgrade until I saw that you could paint on models in CS4E - but does that require BP?

Well BodyPaint is professional tool used by big boys in movies like Spiderman, etc. With BodyPaint you get ultimate control over every aspect, you cant unwrap mesh easy with advanced tools and then paint textures. Neat thing is that you can paint Color, Bump, Displacement, Specular, Reflection, etc maps in one go. So when you stroke color on model BP make that stroke on each channel, it have very similar tools as PS and even support PS brushes. And with BP comes C4D which is also major app for modeling, animation, etc.. PS CS3 and CS4 obj support is still very young and cant be used for serious work :)

Argh...$995...I don't need it that bad, just playing around at this point, but maybe when the price comes down and I'm doing more than experimenting.
Thanks for the info folks!

hello people
so, i'm still using my good old Photoshop 7. :)
i have decided it is time for an upgrade. but i can't decide whether or not i need the Photoshop CS4 Extended.
as far as i understand, the biggest difference between the 2 is the 3d features. i'm wondering if they are indeed good and easy to work with. i do all of my 3d texturing in Photoshop, and if Photoshop CS4 Extended allowes me to paint freely on a 3d model, that might make a huge difference for me. but i did hear that it doesn't work very well.
any thoughts on that?..
