Subject: Just trying a possibility of 'real' hair

I created a 'head' in Poser, took to PSP and then overlaid my scanned 'grey hair' onto the scanned head being careful to get the sizes approximately the same. I had tried to pose the head similarly to the pic I scanned the hair from. I erased all but the hair on the 'grey hair' layer, merged and did a bit of smudging/softening. I imagine one could do quite a bit better-esp. with perhaps a better scanned image (need better resolution I think), but, even though it is 'cheating' a bit, it does look more like real hair-altho' now the Poser woman looks more 'fake', doesn't she? Poser woman? where? All I see is the poser mal...er.. yes yes she does. PAN~

picnic ( ) posted Fri, 24 September 1999 at 10:56 PM

Geez, Pan, not every woman has long flowing blonde hair LOL. I picked an easy one (short hair), for crying out loud. Obviously should have added some big earrings. And-since we don't have many grey haired 'any' gender folks, I thought I would stick one in. Diane B.

HAHA! I am SOOO sorry really I was just NOT over the shock of the new forum when I stepped in here and saw your image. I had been in the Mobius post about hair and since he had done a woman I ASSumed that this was a man...but when you mentioned it to be a woman...well..it shocked me back into reality..haha...GREAT image....sorry I was so out of it! PAN~ (sorta like PAT)

You're excused. We're all used to seeing long haired gorgeous Poser women-this one is more a normal workaday woman of middle years (guess I need to find that 'mouth line morph'). Well, Grey told us to be in chat tonight for a big announcement. I was playing with my 'greyhaired woman', so didn't make it. Came back on, checked my mail, and lo and behold, the announcement. Guess this is my last posted image for awhile though since I don't have a web site and don't have the time to do much about it until late in the Fall. I haven't found anything about when this site will be gone though. Diane B

I think that this site will still be here as long as we all want it to be here. I read that in another post. I'm afraid that this whole moving thing could backfire though! What if everyone finds the move TOO much? What if people decided to stay on familiar grounds? THEN what will become of the NEW forum? This is ALL too scary...

picnic ( ) posted Sat, 25 September 1999 at 12:40 AM

Well, I for one, decided to get out of the middle of it and delete all my posts concerning the new site and just sit tight and see what happens. I suspect there is a lot we don't know about-and I agree-will everyone here know about the new site--and will they move also? I don't mind the change so much--change happens and should be expected. I just dislike the fact that it's so----well, such a bumpy transition, to say the least. Diane

Picnic, if you need space, I got it. I can upload your images to my site, and you will NOT have to worry about bad links, etc. I have Diane G's Klingon and texture file there. If interested, contacted me at WarriorDL@aol.com It's free, I do the uploading (you just send the pics, I send back the URL) I can even create a gallery for you to show off :o)

Thanks much WarriorDL. I need to learn this-web page construction, that is (after over 6 years on the net, I'm ashamed to say I haven't), but don't have time right now. However, I don't really have anything right now. Most of my pics have been 'learning' ones and to ask questions. I know I'll see you at the new site and if I get in a pinch, I'll sure contact you. Really nice of you to offer-that's what I've really liked about this forum-hope it continues with the move. Diane B.

Very nice job on the scanned hair Diane!! With all the garbage going on tonight, I almost missed this excellent "test"! Also, you have a valid point. This whole scenario is getting childish, (even I lost my wits at one point). I have lost enough valuable time that I could have used rendering. Best to see what transpires... I'm sure that wherever we all end up, we will all eventually meet each other again.

Radart, the 'childish' was aimed at a post (now deleted) that was above the post which I have NOW deleted linking to a porn site. However, I think it is best to just see what transpires. I don't think, even after spending the evening reading all the posts, that I fully understand what transpired behind the scenes. Thanks for the note about the hair. I was interested in Mobius's post about his hair (which looks a WHOLE lot better, of course, than mine) and thought I'd give a whirl to what I 'thought' he might have done--since he said it was done in post processing. Diane, I think the effect worked, though as you say, it makes the figure look a little plastic. I do have to say, you had me worried as I read the line, ".. and then overlaid my scanned 'grey hair' onto .." until I realized you meant a scanned PHOTO of your head. Wheew, I had this mental image of you with your head pressed against the scanner bed. Anyhoo .. if it helps, you're not the only one with grey hair. Mine has been for years now. Though I will admit, mine is a tad longer than yours. :) Be well

Foxhollow ( ) posted Mon, 27 September 1999 at 7:02 PM

You did a great job composting the hair, Diane. Mobius's hair was a much higher resolution scan...nothing to do with your technique! You've just discovered the woes of photorealism...get the hair right and the skin looks phoney...do the skin and the eyes become plastic...etc...etc... It's like a never-ending quest, but all quests are fun! :)

RJ, I had to laugh at this post. Its not my hair-just 'my' hair that I scanned from a catalog. I do have some grey but not totally (just a genetic luck of the draw-I qualify for it). I will have to admit, though, that mine is pretty short LOL-I also did a man with this same hair (it was scanned from a very pretty woman though) and it worked okay with some adaptations. I may post it later-used Micogames Sten and their sweater texture and lots of Traveler's male face morphs. He's not TOO dorky looking. picnic
