Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 24 8:11 pm)
Hi,
the idea to take the figure's rigg as reference isn't so bad.
From your image it looks like the feet/legs are nailed on the floor and all actors from hip and above are moveable. If thats right I have a idea.
I don't have Brainy but I assume it has a normal standard rigging, e.g. hip, thigh, shin, foot, ...
So if you have saved your boots as a new CR2 there a two possibilities, I personally would prefer the hard way and edit the CR2 directly.
But you could do it a bit easier.
Only load you new CR2 and go to the setup room. Delete all unneccesary bones from the figure.
I guess that boots have at least rFoot, lFoot and maybe lToe, rToe. Possibly also lShin/rShin.
So all bones NOT covering a mesh group in your boots are useless. With one exception: leave the direct neighbors in the rigging. Thats for better joint purposes. All bones have a parent/child structure. So this means hold also the parents for a given child.
Easy example: Assumed the boots consist from toe, feet, shin. Than delete all bones except BODY, THIGH, shin, feet, toe, all in l(eft) and r(ight) version.
Go back to the pose room and conform the boots to the brainy. In Zero-Pose !!!
With the boots choosen go to the topmenu under figure if I am right by brain and check that there is NO IK activated. If that topic is not greyed out, you have IK-chains in your boots that are useless. Uncheck the respective entries. And now save the boot-CR2.
Normally it should work the correct way now. If not it's best to open the CR2 in a text editor and search directly for inkyChain and delete this parts.
But as first try to have all reduced to the necessary bones.
Otherwise you should also have a look to the tutorials of PhilC www.philc.net/tutorialsIndex.htm
or of Dr.Geep drgeep.com/NPU/NPUWelcome.htm .
Good luck
Jo
Thank you Jo, that tips were what I needed.
I started with deleting the inkyChain and know they are working fine.
All the other tips I read in severel tutorials before but I never read about the inkys ^^
And without them the boots are working fine :)
Ok, in extreme positions they have some pokethrough, but that depents on the Toon himself because he has two fully posable toes and I only included the first part of each toe to keep them simple.
Thanks again for all the tips, they will help for sure in the next stuff I build for him. He needs a backpack for example to carry all of his "rule the universe" stuff g
Glad I could help you ...
That inky-stuff is becoming more and more nasty. Normally IK is very usefull for posing if in the main figure. But as conforming clothes are build to follow this figure they need no IK at all.
But this problem is build in since the early poser versions and made by the poser company('s) themself.
For example using the p4fboots with posette (p4), both originally from metacreations. If you bend the toe's of posette the boots will not follow. This is cause active IK in the boots.
I didn't realize that for year's until I got heavy problems with V4 and boots with IK on. The problems are from not conforming correct over not bending and making funny movements up to that "nailing and breaking" problem like in you picture.
I found that the Ik was the troublemaker and, what wonder, without IK also that old p4 thingies work correct.
So the problem is a old one (like most of the poser problems) but tends to be figure dependend more or less dangerous.
If you have poke-througs might be you have to correct the joints a bit. Otherwise if the problem is only at the toe, make them invisible. Other than in real life poser people need no existing toe and/or feet inside the shoes ... or other bodyparts inside as far as the cloth is covering the part completely ... :-)
You are somewhat brave, starting with such heavy things like boots and going on with relatively easy backpacks and such accessories ... ok, is our german virtue "Kopf einziehen und mitten rein ins Gewühl" ... much luck for the backpack ...
Hehehe ... I won't call it "brave". It's more because I'm kinda lazy. If there've been some available for him I would have bought them and never tried to build some (lol does that sentence make sense? ^^).
And they've been easy to build (not to rig) for me because the feet "include" most of the design. Its more difficult for me to design than to create something arround a design.
All my 3D experience comes from my job as a technical drafter. Give me some technical Stuff and I can build what ever you want, but when it comes to organic or natrual design (can't find the right word for it ^^) ... what I try to say is that all the things I create tend to look kinda technical and clean.
KK, nuff said. ^^ There are more tutorials to explore :)
Yeah, makes sense ... at least at start up.
But if you want to buy stuff, you'r wrong with such underdogs like brainy. You should go for the main stream like V4 ...
Technical and clean ... hey, super good for doing rigging stuff like cr2, pp2 ... rubbish and cryptic stuff is enough out there at last times.
Tutorials are fine ... if the screen would be bigger ... tutorial, modeler, paint app, poser ... I miss that good old paper books that could be placed left or right around the monitor.
B.t.w. my technical drawing or better engineer career ended early, sudden and rapidly as I overlooked the word CAST (Guss) in my first drawing task. Got that extremly laborious hand drawn thing back with lots of nasty ballpen lines and the repeating word lifting bevel (Aushebeschrägen).
That killed the fun for making money with pure technical stuff .. a bit but enough.
May be now it's easier cause most of this stuff is done with puter's so could be changed rapidly but with that old drawing boards it wasn't nice to throw away all that hours and days with broken pencils and ink drops ... :cursing: so went on with logistical stuff and IT. Organisation charts don't have lifting bevels ...
lol ... cast drawings are a pain in the a** for sure ^^
I never met any drafter who really likes them ;)
And back to that Brainy and/or/vs. V4:
I have V4 in my runtime (and to many products for her ...) - but - don't know how to eplain - I don't really like her anymore. She's to beautiful. Kinda unnatural beautiful? I think she doesn't fit in my toon-mind ^^
Atm I'm playing arround with Brainy most of the time. He's really funny, cause he can bend everyting everywhere. Quite cool, for learing to pose something. And - as you said - he's not state of the art or mainstream. ^^
I think he was the right choice for a newbie like me. He's my personal trainer ^^
For sure, V4 is beautyful. But on other hand if I want to see normal people, ugly or fat or thin or otherwise, I go downtown looking for all the business people walking in the street instead of working in their offices ... and that's enough reality to love the V's in pc ...
But your right all that V and M peoples are not done for a toonish look. But tastes are different, so I love on one side the semi-natural look of V4 or prefer on other side the absolute flat look like in comics, e.g. Donald Duck or Sylvester. Than with a look to i.e. Vampirella there is a good way to come from flat picture to a more semi-naturel with a poser doll.
So all these toon-people are not completely mine ... although there a really cute figures between but I missed the great context to use them ... ... was also not a big fan of "mars attacks" ...

I have a question regarding shoe setup in Poser.
Since cute little Brainy (www.contentparadise.com/us/user/brainy_product_42705) was available for free, he was sitting in my Runtime waiting for action.
But there's no action when you don't have some shoes to run arround, so I've created some for him (after many months of learing ^^).
The way I know to setup clothing is to call a reference-cr2 (shirt for shirt for example). Ok - so far so good - there are no reference boots for that 'lil toon so I used Brainy himself as reference.
I've added a quick render to show what happend, after I conformed the boots to Brainy and tried to pose him in another place.
It looks like there's something wrong in the cr2 file of the boots - maybe some doubled "Brainy"-information - but I'm not that experienced to figure out what it could be.
Maybe here's someone that can explain how I setup clothing without using a reference figure?
Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany
