Attached Link: Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM

Most people I know when they get there first prime go for something small like a 50mm F1.8 or F1.4.  I'm different I have just ordered a Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM  I don't have it yet.  It should come middle of next week.

Congrats on the new lens. I just purchased the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM and I'm so happy with it.

Nice one David, I envy you, we poor people have to get stuck wth the kits LOL, seriously though, I have seen that lense, it's a great bit of glass, good luck with it!

I have a big white one Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM which to be honest is one of me favourites and hardly comes off, but it's too slow and a little soft at the 400mm end.  This new one I can double to 400 and not loose AF. or the speed..  I have also bought some bird feeders so look out soon I may be posting some bird feeding shots

Well I will look very forward to your bird shots David, we have some fine bird photographers here at rendo, so go on mate join the ranks :)

Christo, I too must stick with what I have at present, but let's look on the bright side, a good camera body is a good start, and a good lense can come later, I have seen some great shots around rendo, even with kit lenses, some people just right off as snide and useless, we all have to start somewhere :)

As with Bruce, my first prime was 50mm.  I love it.  Still, I use mostly zoom for everyday but always have my bag with the 50mm available with me.  My 300mm prime and two others stay in my other camera bag to be carried when I think beforehand those will do the job.

Get a prime and be prepared to do the zoom with your feet!

I shot a dinner once (casual thing for fun) using only  the 50mm and it did take an adjustment to the composing eye.

Fred, that is a good one you are getting...have fun and enjoy!
