Subject: forearm gap

redwulf ( ) posted Thu, 19 March 2009 at 10:35 PM · edited Sat, 15 February 2025 at 9:21 AM

I recently lost my geometries folder when I was invaded by a virus,  Upon reinstalling V4 I have noticed a problem with her forearm being flat right next to the elbow.  When bent it leaves a gap between the bicep aned forearm... I remember this a long time ago as being a problem for me but i seemed to have solved it at some point in my renders, can anyone tell me if there is a fix for this problem?

Did you run the updater utility after re-installing V4?

redwulf ( ) posted Fri, 20 March 2009 at 1:25 PM

Geep, no, bend joints the elbow is where the forearm and upper arm meetwhere the bicep should cover the forearm, in a normal arm the forearm is very flat against the upper arm causing a gap between the to body parts.  The gap is VERY noticible and requires I fill in with photoshop later.

Lisa, I looked for an updater, but only found the one for V3 on the DAZ website.  I have sent them an email trying to find out what I am doing wrong as well if I get an answer I will post it here.

The v4 updater thing is some script that you run after loading V4. I never understood just what its doing.

vholf ( ) posted Fri, 20 March 2009 at 1:46 PM

I think lisarichie is refering to the updater for V4 located on your desktop after installing V4, you would need to run that after installing some addons for her such morphs.

It actually goes through the original CR2 and adds lines to reflect any new filenames that have appeared in the Libraries!DAZVictoria 4 folder (same for M4).

I remember that, now that you've said that but strangely it didn't add to my desktop this time... I guess i better do a reinstall
thanks for the help!

pjz99 ( ) posted Fri, 20 March 2009 at 4:05 PM

The installer may leave some incompatible trash from a previous install - it did in my case and I had to delete the !DAZVictoria 4 directory before my install would work right.  Your mileage may vary :)

If you mean this ... then you should be able to correct it using the Joint Editor.

There was a thread over on DAZ about this exact problem back about when A4 first came out and I recall it had something to do with running the updater as I mentioned previously, not 100% on that cause it's been a while.

Sorry I can't post the link to the thread, DAZ and I have had a mutual parting of the ways.

Richard Haseltine that posts in the DAZ forum here is a mod over there and could probably get you set with the necessary info to correct this issue without having to muck about with the joint editor, though that would work.

Lisa,

Thanks loads, I will try that as soon as I delete all my v4 files and folders and reistall and use the updater...I apreciate your time and effort.  if this doesn't work at leasst I have someone to turn to later,  Hope I can be of assistance to you one day in return.  To all you others who have chipped in a greatful thanks to all y'all too.

Maybe you CAN correct this via the joint editor but you should not have to, something is really wrong with your installation.  Please be aware that existing CR2s or scene files will not be affected when you run the updater.

PJZ,

I ran the updater and it didn't do a thing,  I'm not all that good with the joint editor, if I have to I will work with it.  I plan on pulling all the cr2's off and reinstalling the figure...  I am hoping that will clear up the problem..  I went back and looked at some of my older images and they were like this but seemed to clear up at one point or another.  So for now I am about back where i was but the erasing cr2's is a different approach I can try.... if anyone else has an idea please jump in with them i'll try them all if I have to.

As before thanks for all the assistance I do appreciate it.

If you're loading V4 into Poser and getting bad deformation like that, you need to contact DAZ support and get some help.

Is V4 installed to your main runtime?

From my experience Poser tends not to play nice with V4 unless the !DAZ folder is in the main :runtime:libraries path.

At this point I personally would uninstall V4 and re-install ensuring the files are installed to the recommended location, giving a clean install to troubleshoot if you still have the problem afterwards. If you do still have the problem contact DAZ support or Richard Haseltine. (I'd go with RH first, he's pretty sharp and generally more pleasant to deal with than DAZ support)

I install base characters, core morphs (like morphs++}, lights, utilities, and scripts to the main runtime on the C: drive and everything else to external runtimes. This solved most of the problems I had with Poser Pro and DAZ figures on Vista.

The files related to the updater are copied to the HD when you install so if it doesn't create a desktop icon or you need to re-run it for a later installation package you can do it manually.

Look under C:program files:...:runtime:libraries:!DAZ for a file called DzCreateExPFiles.exe and double click it or run the batch file from the same directory, whichever you prefer.

Above all don't get dicouraged, this problem has been resolved previously. Sorry, I'm just old and slow so can't remember exactly how for sure. (It's not one that happened to me.)

lisarichie ( ) posted Sat, 21 March 2009 at 7:30 AM

Correction to above post.

Run the Batch file not the .exe to manually update.

redwulf ( ) posted Sat, 21 March 2009 at 8:13 AM

Lisa,

Well, damn.... you gave me the answer... thanks!!  I had created a V4 with all the morphs added and saved it to a character file, easier to just load....I just went and loaded V4 from the DAZ folder then went and added the morphs from the DAZ's Victoria 4 folder in the Pose folder...andpoof.. the problem was gone... no more shortcuts I guess..  BTW  very few people are considered old or slow by my... because they are usually neither by comparison lol  again thanks to everyone...
