Subject: Best free stockphoto sites?

vintorix ( ) posted Sat, 21 March 2009 at 1:57 PM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 12:12 AM

I wonder what are the most useful sites for free stockphotos?
I have compiled the following list but I have not time to go through them all so I turn to
the members of this forum for help.

dreamstime.com
everystockphoto.com
imageafter.com
morguefile.com
nationsillustrated.com
openphoto.net
photorogue.com
pixelio.de
stockvault.net
unprofound.com
photogen.com
sxc.hu

I have been using sxc.hu. Is there any more in the same class? Have I missed some important?
(I am meaning real free, not just cheap)

Thx beforehand

i've found some useful images on morguefile (mainly outdoor landscape shots...) but based on need, i use dreamstime at the office and usually pay for the "better" shots , same with stock exchange (sxc.hu).

these sites are great for photographers starting out in the "stock" trade, as they offer the ability to get exposure (no pun intended) as skills get better.

those are the three i use the most

I use Image After (already on your list) a lot, but mostly for background images and making textures. Probably 60% of every Poser image I've made and posted here has a background image from there.

Thank you! Seem like a very usful site. As I said, I have not had the time to explore the whole list. It is because of that I asked for help.

2Textured <<(click here) is a good resource. Architectural & nature textures are abundant, but there are other choices as well. :)

Thank you purrfectdrug, I will check it out. But mainly I am interested in beautiful nature scenes in  high-resolution, 2000-3000 pix at least preferable HDR. I bought a couple of DVDs with textures a while ago and have just beginned to explore it.
