she looks amazing. i like how she has a more stylized look.

I'm not much of a fan of the original Girl, but this one looks amazing.

Winterclaw ( ) posted Thu, 26 March 2009 at 3:39 PM

I was thinking about it earlier and IMO being that deformed isn't a good thing for a 3d char.  It works in 2D mediums and well done cel-shading, but not for things like poser and DS.

WARK!

Hu??? I don't see any difference in the basic shape of the new version. I like The Girl, but the only advantage of the new version seems to to be the  supposed compatibility with V4 products.

When you put them side by side you will see a difference ... eyes and lips. I like the original better simply because she is the one made by Kim Goossens. Everything else is not the Girl :P

Which is a big advantage. The original girl didn't share anything (not even texures, IIRC). Now, not only is there nearly as much clothing as there was for the original (well, maybe half as much anyway) Plus, I suspect you can get fairly good results using Aiko bodymorphs and Girl head morphs.

I'm kinda of two minds about her, TTTT (wow, Sean, quel surprise!). She's an interesting look, but she's not Gossens' work, that's obvious. The first generation Girl was very stylized -- this one just seems... I dunno... bland by comparison.

And oh look, another excuse for a whole new line of napkin dresses! Wow... I cannot wait..... /sarcasm.

But I guess the thing that doesnt surprise me but does sadden me is now everything is coming out of the same V4 mesh. Everything. That's fine from a business standpoint, i suppose (God bless our mercantile Poser ways!) but it sure seems like a dearth of imagination from the big old shop in Utah. They might as well rename the place PAs R Us.

Doing everything as a morph set does allow to mix the morph into other figures. A bit Girl, a bit Aiko, some muscle morphs, some Elite. Makes the original model more versatile, helps to find working clothes.

Although, if I want the GIRL look, I will use the original. Still, blending it in some characters is nice.

I didn't get the first version of the Girl but I did this one if not only to have another character in my tool box.

Hurray! Another uninspiring release from the DAZ. but, I'm really happy with all of these new releases, since they're starting to give the old stuff away for free now. Looking forward to seeing more and more free generation 3 items released.

One thing I know for sure, this new generation will not find any place in my runtimes.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

I hope not!

What about Jim's "Guy" Sean? I like him...he seemed like he might sort of fit your style.

I do like that you can dial in aspects of GIRL, AIko and V4 now..although I haven't actually tried it yet. Downloaded the free base, going to pick up Guy when vouchers come out since it will only be about $5, but I'm not sure how much add on stuff I'll buy.

If you know..is it possible with XDresser to effectively fit some of the Koshini/Ichiro clothes to something like Girl or a version of Aiko/V4? LF makes some of the coolest clothes even if they are quite a bit older.

In Poser 7 pro the eyes (the sphere with the iris) are not correctly placed ,just beside) and i cannot replace
Someone else??

Bri65 ( ) posted Sat, 28 March 2009 at 6:02 PM

martial,
I had the same problem. You need to make sure that all your V4 files are replaced with the new update. I just removed the files from the Daz People folder and the Geometry folder, reran the V4 update and then it worked fine. Hope this helps.

SeanMartin ( ) posted Sat, 28 March 2009 at 10:40 PM

"What about Jim's "Guy" Sean?"

He's pretty cool, but again there seems to be something, I dunno, ordinary, maybe? about them both. I'll take another look when it's released, because I do like Jim's work a lot, but I'm also sure that it'll eventually get lost in the shuffle. I just consider myself very, very lucky to have found Ichiro and worked enough with the mesh over the years to create something I like and that doesnt seem to get old.

Gossens had once mentioned he was developing a guy himself, and I dont know if anything ever came of it. If so, I gather DAZ wasnt interested, but it would have been fun to see what he had in mind.

I dunno, guys. I mean, yeah, you can share outfits and blend attributes and all that... but it just makes the characters look blander somehow. Girl4 simply doesnt have the style the original had: it's Gossens' work filtered through a Vicky lens, which is quickly becoming the DAZ house style. A3, from a style POV, wipes the floor with A4, which frankly is about as butt ugly a base mesh as DAZ has ever released. But hey, it works for them, I guess, so whatever...

zai ( ) posted Sat, 28 March 2009 at 11:22 PM

True..but I do like that I can use more realistic skins on her. Never got into the original girl much, but these looked fun to play with. I just thought his face was quite cute. The only reason I used A3 or 4 was for clothes since that mesh seemed to have more interesting stuff made for it than V3 or 4.

Having picked up XDresser, I've been more selective in what I buy because I have the option to do a refit myself, although I haven't actually done one. I had to load it on my other intel Mac since it's a PC program and haven't made it over to do any serious work, but it did change my buying habits.

I've kind of turned off my buying impulses except for big sales where I think I'll get some good deals being so busy with work and also building my own site as a vendor. When I'm not doing that, I've been TRYING to learn modeling so I can stretch my skill somewhat and make what I can't buy instead. So far 10 hours of Carrara training and I can make a pot and a stick...and lame ones at that..LOL.

But having picked up a few cool things lately I want to take some time off and just do some art for art's sake. Need a brain break! And these looked like something, while not anime (which I don't really like), are still toony which is different than my usual style.

"One thing I know for sure, this new generation will not find any place in my runtimes."

Shocking!  ;)   And I don't think support for this Girl will be dropped anytime soon because they don't have to worry about supporting an entirely different figure now, just new body morphs for V4 clothing are needed.

"hey don't have to worry about supporting an entirely different figure now, just new body morphs for V4 clothing are needed"

True, that's a great advantage., but as you point out, now the onus falls on the PAs to put those morphs in, or else leave it to the user to move things using XD or WW (would those work in situations where youre starting from the same mesh like this?).

But that doesnt explain away the fact that these meshes are moving things in a direction that... well, okay, let's put it this way. Last week, I was working on a bbunch of little animations for an exercise company. We just finished the men's series, now I'm moving everything over to the women's. Out of expediency, I'm using figures that have a low enough poly count that the machine doesnt have to sit there and chug and chug while rendering the animation.

One of the early experiments was using the P4 female and your Vickybuster texture: remember that one? You created that, what, seven, eight years ago? And it still works -- beautifully. I once told you that I thought it outshined everything made for the Showgirl, and that still holds, even after all this time and after all the cookie-cutter textures made for the various iterations of Vicky and her friends.

And if anything, the images of V4 and A4 and now Girl4 have a consistently sleazy look — these aint the kinda girls you bring home to Mama. And Girl4 just nails the concept home: she's a blowup doll version of V4, who's pretty much a sexual parody as it is.

But as I said before, what the heck. Sells like crazy, so I guess that's what the users want. God knows, as much as we sit there and deny it, it's true: the users want their Poser females to be overly pneumatic, sexualized archetypes, to the point where it's damn near embarrasing. Remember that image DAZ used for Valentine's Day? The chick in the (of course) low-cut gown, her eyes closed, her head looking up to the camera, her lips pursed? That, arguably, had to be one of the silliest images used by a company that wants to be taken seriously by the Big CG Boys -- seriously. And yet it certainly defined the DAZ business model to a T.

So, anyone find the airpump that comes with Girl 4 yet? :)

Here's a quick experiment.  Used Morphing Clothes from Dimension3D.  Loaded up The Girl 4 with Morphs - the Girl, V4++, Elite.  Used that character and inserted the morphs into Hongyu's Leather Corset.  Loaded Girl 4 and the clothes.  Fit perfectly!  Unretouched image attached.

G4 is V4 morph which looks like The Girl.
My Athlon said that I should avoid her. Previous version used less memory and looks the same.
I think Girl is not a character which needs ultra realistic textures.
The Girl with V3 UVs was enough for me.

I think that more usefull would be The Boy :) She was always most lonely character in 3D world.

SnowSultan ( ) posted Sun, 29 March 2009 at 3:19 PM

Thank you for the comments on Vickibuster, yes it's been quite a while since that was even the topic of conversation  :)   (note, I didn't make all of it myself, I assembled parts of her from other free textures).  LOL, and yes, I will agree that if you don't take some time to apply expressions and careful posing, Girl does and has always looked like a blow-up doll by default.

It's really recommended that you try applying her morphs at less than 100% and combine with V4 morphs for best results. 30%-60% with other face or body morphs in small amounts can give you a very unique look that you can't really get with just V4 or A4.

If you want a lower poly female figure, you might want to take a look at Loretta Lorez at DAZ by Predatron. Looks to be extremely customizable and very resource friendly too.

Thanks,
