anyone have any experience with either one of these?

Good?

Bad?

Difference?

I've read a few threads around the web, so I thought it would be good to ask here..

I have not used it myself but I know many in my photography club use smugmug.  They generate quite a lot of sales from it.

smugmug sells outside of the US, Zenfolio does not

I do hear complaints about the speed of smugmug..

it seems like an even split from what I've read in various forums..

I will have to point Shari (tizjezzme) to this question of yours. She uploads to smugmug under this name as well as to Webshots - the latter does not sell though as far as I know.

My experience is that smugmug loads extremely slow, but then it could be our South African (crappy) links also contributing. It is much slower than Renderosity, if that helps.

I will send her this link...

**Hi Bruce & Piet,

Personally, I love smugmug.  It makes purchasing images easy .. and also, I have 1.5mb DSL connection and dont find it slow AT ALL.

My personal advice:   Smugmug rocks.  It's worth every penny.

I agree, Smugmug rocks. In addition to making purchasing easy, it's extremely customizable and very flexible. I have Comcast cable, and I don't find it slow at all. It's not inexpensive, but there is no storage size limit. If you were willing to spend the time, you could upload everything to there and use it as a backup. ;-)

I have both photographs and fractals there. It is organized into categories and galleries, which makes finding things easy and intuitive. I can't comment about Zenfolio, since I've never been there.
