Subject: Will people be using The Girl 4?

onimusha ( ) posted Fri, 03 April 2009 at 3:29 PM · edited Tue, 12 November 2024 at 10:04 AM

I remember when the Girl 3 came out.  The Rendo galleries filled up with Girl 3 renders for a little while, and then Girl 3 just disappeared (unlike specialty figures like Aiko 3 which people still love).  This really makes me wonder why DAZ released a Girl 4 and why they keep saying it's the most anticipated figure of the year.  Is it really that anticipated?  Are people really going to be using it?

I personally have no use for the figure but I'm wondering if people are really going to be using it and if they feel it's enough of an uprgade from Girl 3?

Gareee ( ) posted Fri, 03 April 2009 at 3:36 PM

Heck yeah.. you have all the diversity of V4, plus additional girl looks. And people have been clamoring for girl4's release for a year now.

Girl 3 here was an unofficial figure that got no support at all for that reason.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Believable3D ( ) posted Fri, 03 April 2009 at 3:56 PM

I downloaded the free base, but I don't really have plans on using G4.

But "people" certainly will, particularly since it's based on V4, and ergo much easier to clothe.

This is the first generation girl I will use.

I really am having a hard time not getting her, but with all the stuff I have for Girl 3, don't think I can afford to start all over again....but she is a beauty.

Actually, I was under the impression that unlike Girl3, Girl4 is an extension of the V4.2 figure.  She won't install unless you have the V4.2 base runtime in place.

So, Girl4 is not stand-alone figure.  She is another morph version of V4.2

Is there an echo in here? :)

As I wrote in the second response: Girl 4 is based on V4. (Just like Aiko 4.)

I lined up the base figures (V4, A4, G4) and just cant get over her size, she's the tallest of the three and compare that head size, the arms n hands, now the feet.  I use some of the body morph on A4 and V4 but darn Daz. To me she's huge. I can deal with the arms and hands as a morph but those feet, oh boy. In conjunction with V4 and A4 she works well with the Elite and Pretty Base 4 morphs and so far with another tool I've got no problem clothing them. But as a character, no I think they missed the boat. I can't afford another mouth to feed n clothe. I'll pass and have to stick to what I've got for V4 items. Buying more napkin wear and hair isn't gonna happen. And what happened to cute 'n cuddley??? IMHO.........HD

Darboshanski ( ) posted Sat, 04 April 2009 at 5:15 PM

Got the free base, like to play with her, like that she take all of V4 morphs, like that she can take many of my best V4 textures and maybe some clothing work arounds but as far as serious renders we shall see.

Yep. It's pretty cool.

I think I'll try and see how it mixes with my "Looks like V4" morph I made for Posette. :-)

i didn't think i would like her, but got her 'cause i thought she would have some usefull morphs to blend with V4/A4, the results i am likin' though so i think she is a useful addition.

Yes, i too get the impression that that is the type of caricaturisation of the female human, we see in GIRL.

No, not using her. But to be honest I'm will not be using any of the 4th generation figures, simply don't like them.

I figure most people will blend her with all the other available gen 4 morphs.. so you can get pretty much anything you want from the gen4 series.

I seriously disliked the idea of making her a morph off V4 originally, but I DO have to hand it to Daz.. they really did a hell of a job with her.

And how you can say you dislike something without trying it is beyond me. That's like cutting ooff your nose to spite your face.

Greywolf Starkiller ( ) posted Mon, 06 April 2009 at 11:01 AM

Good question. While I love the Gen3 figures, the Gen4 figures are much better in many ways.
Think of V4 as a blank canvas. While all her morph packs applied, there are infinite options.
And with A4 and G4 being morphs of V4, and H4 and G4(Guy) being morphs of M4, they use
the same rigging. This makes changing clothing between characters MUCH simpler, and
with a utility like Morphing Cloth, a snap! :) Some people don't like change. I can't
really blame them, as not all change is good, but the Gen4s are a definite improvement over
the Gen3s.

Just because you didn't like her mapping doesn;t mean that the already existing textures, morphs, and options aren't of value.

I did PLUS sets because figures lacked many features they should have had when released. .. the Gen4 figures don't NEED plus sets, because they already have a ton of options, including many I was building in as well.

There are plenty of seamless textures for them now, as well as developer textures, and when you consider you can mix V4, the V4 creature kit, V4 elite, A4, Girl4, aa well as some of the M4 and H4 morphs, that's a VERY diverse figure. If Daz can pull off a Freak 4 without rerigging, we'll have all THAT available as well.

I love her as she comes accross real cool, as posteed a render with her in and she takes quite a few v4 textures and some m4.

She was free. I got the base. Will I do any Girl4 renders? Doubtful. Will I use the morphs mixed with V4/A4/Creature morphs? Probably.

Will I use the V4/A4/G4/Creature Morphs on my M4V4 INJ compatible figure from Jim? Definately!

vampchild ( ) posted Fri, 10 April 2009 at 10:53 AM

I thought about it a while and then bought the G4 starter pak. After
working with G4, I like what I bought. I just do stuff for myself and
don't claim to be a poser pro are anything, but G4 is very pretty
in her on way. I didn't get the free base and had to shell out cash
for her. I hope the folks who make characters make a few good ones
for her.

I won't use G4 - she has become a V4 add on and is not even remotely as lovely as the original Girl by Kim Goossens. They eyes and lips are wrong and don't get me started on poses which are not properly grounded and lip textures that don't match the map.

"...she has become a V4 add on and is not even remotely as lovely as the original ..."

That's pretty much the way I felt about Aiko 4. Aiko 3 however had/has a ton of support. The Girl Mk. 1's support paled in comparison. The Girl 4 may not be quite the same girl as the original but she still manages to express the sassy, toonish vamp spirit in a unique way. With the possibility of better support and the tremendous flexibility of the Victoria 4 morph system, I'd say she's a nice addition.
