Monster Vs. Aliens was composed and rendered with Maya and Dreamworks' in-house, proprietary software. (of which I have not yet heard a name for)
Yup, movies (especially 3D animated) are going to benefit GREATLY from this new breed of 3D (stereo) viewing. I saw Monster Vs. Aliens in 3D and both the movie and the 3D effect blew me away. Loved it.
The movie I worked on last year, "A Christmas Carol", and the one I am working on this year will both be 3D animated and released for viewing in 3D. Not to mention Tin Tin and Avatar.

I love this one quote from HP about their hardware Dreamworks used.
"Create one of the most technically challenging sequences of the film involving a flyover of a town, including houses, hills and trees. In this shot, the background trees had to be broken up into more than 300 layers to render"
-Anyone STILL want to render EVERYTHING in one pass? Lol...

Yeah, it is released for 3D and non-3D screens.
You may have to hunt for a theater that shows it in 3D.

My Wife and I went to see this movie over the weekend, on IMAX Large Screen + 3D Glasses.
Anyone who loves CG should go see this.
I have watched many top notch CG movies in theaters, but this one just goes over the top. The Quality of the renders are just amazing. You have to see it to believe it.
The 3D Glassess technology is awesome as well and there is lots of Humor!!!.
I highly recommend this movie.
