When I try to change something in an OBJ and it refuses to change, I know
that I have two different copies of the OBJ file in different folders.
I'm busy revising one of the copies but Poser is reading the other one.
(Because the other one happens to come first in the runtime order, as given
in LibraryPrefs.xml)
Search your entire computer. I'll bet you'll find at least two versions of your
OBJ file. Rename the one you're not using.

I'm having trouble with assigning material names. When I exported my obj, the material zones were named correctly. When I imported the onj and set it up as a figure, they were not. So I went into the cr2 and obj files in a file editor. I changed all the mat numers to the correct names. Still in Poser they are showing up with just the material number. Material_57 for example. Now I've searched both the cr2 and the obj and there is NO string for "Material_57", yet there it is in Poser. >:(
I've tried re-loading the figure dozens of times, and even tried restarting Poser a couple of times. Still that stupid Material_57 is there. I don't know what else to do to get rid of it.
Any ideas or suggestions would be VERY welcome!
