Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 18 10:25 pm)
You might try this ...
Export* the table & guns as a Wavefront OBJ... *(Include Group info)
Import what you just exported ... UNcheck everything on Import so the scale is not changed.
Save the Imported (compound) object in the Props Library
Then Load as many tables (with guns) as you need and position them where you want.

ghost6677 - i don't think that would work because after you import a scene you can't move it around and position it. I think Dr Geep has the best solution.
Thankyou very much! I should have thought of that myself!!!!

Just note when you export / import OBJ, you lose any advanced material settings. Textures stay on, but any shading is lost. Might be best to save a materials collection for anything that has any special shading going on (the guns might).
hmm - good point.

Parent your table prop (with the gun figures attached) to the Body of MinFig. Save it back to a pallet with a new name. When prompted to save the whole group, answer yes. When you load it, the table and guns will load with it, and everything will still be possible. If you want to move the table guns and all, just move the Body of MinFig. No problems with materials either.
The trick here is that you can't save a prop with figures attached to it to a pallet and keep the figures attached, but you can save a figure with other figures and or props attached.
actually I did have one funny texture and poser crashed every single time I tried to save it with this node attached, right near the end of the export.
If I apply the texture after and try to save as a prop then poser also crashes.
I just got an email including:-
" This is a notification that lesbentley has replied to the thread "silly question"
however I cannot see his post as yet, even though I tried several times to refresh the page or reload from the email.
Must be some little renderosity glitch.

aha - just tgot the message from lesbentley. Thanks, that would have the advantage that I could move the guns around on the table. Also the table changed size when I exported as an object, even though I exported at 100% size.
Maybe one day they will make a new poser that can just group things easily.

Hi, I added some more guns, and now, every single time I try to export the objects as a .obj file poser 7 or poser pro crashes, every single time. REally frustrating because i actually had this method working until I added about 6 more guns.

Haven't got any fancy textures.

only one art a time though - i'm talking about scenes with lots of clutter where i want to move everything at once and maybe duplicate that group of cluter and position it nearby etc

If you don't need to pose the guns but only need them as props ...
You might try doing this:
***** Convert A Figure To A Prop ***** (Export/Import aka Dr Geep's "Glue")
Convert the gun(s) from a figure to a prop (object) by Exporting it (them) and then Importing it (them) back into Poser.
[menu] "File" >>> "Export" >>> "Wavefront OBJ..."
Export Note - It's a good idea to check "Include existing groups ..."
Import Note - Be sure to UNcheck* everything so the scale (size) does not change.
**
**- - - - - -
***** Repair Any Material Problems *****
Next, (in the Material Room) repair or adjust any materials or shaders that may have been lost or modified when the gun was exported/imported, e.g., the Wavefront OBJect file does not support transparancy.
***** Parent The Gun To The Table *****
Now the gun(s) is a prop and can be parented to the table.
***** Save The Compound Prop In The Props Library *****
Now, save the table (with the gun(s)) to the Props Library using the "Select Subset" button so that the table and gun(s) are saved together in the Props Library. Let's name it "TplusG".
(or whatever else you want to name it)
***** Load And Use The Compound Prop *****
Now you can load as many "TplusG"s as you want and position them where you want. The gun(s) prop(s) can still be moved on the table because they are separate props but are no longer poseable.
**** And that's all I have to say about that. *** *

thanks Dr Geep, I was thinking of doing that. Such a lot of work though with so many guns.
The export the whole lot and then reimport, and yes I saved as a prop, is the quickest and easiest for me.
