Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 8:11 am)
Why not try re-downloading and see if that fixed the problem?
Or you could contact Tyl2000 and ask the source.

I checked a couple of those props and they seem to work.
Which ones are you having trouble with?
(Also, the website has separate downloads for Windows and Mac versions...
are you sure you downloaded the right version?)

pp2's should open just fine in P6. Perhaps you ended up with a corrupt file?
I'm not quiote familiar with the specific download, so I couldn't tell you if there's anything else odd going on.
However, in general terms, you shouldn't have to do anything special to PP2's, just place them in the props directory, and off you go.

I tried redownloading the checkerboard set, replacing the first try with the second in the props and it still tells me it's not a valid Poser file. I only clicked the Mac compatible button and if it were only one item I'd call it bad luck and go on but all 12 of the props do the same thing. I guess I'll have to contact Tyl2000 and see what I'm missing. Thanks for the advice.
The Win version of the checkerboard is OK. Maybe they made a mistake
in ZIPping the Mac versions...?

PhilC's unzip script should let you install the PC versions onto your Mac. Might be worth a try.(Original post deleted, in case anyone was wondering. I got hold of the wrong end of the stick and started beating about the bush with it. :) )

Just to try and narrow thing down here.
You are placing the pp2 files in the Props Library?

Yes, Mariner. My Mac uses Stuffit to unzip, then I drag the pp2 pieces into Library/Props and the JPEGs into the Textures. When I open Poser, they show up in the Library with the "What's This?" outline guy picture. If I click on one and tell it to add to the scene, I get the "not valid Poser file" error pop-up.
I don't know what a MAC txt file is supposed to look like (uncompressed Poser library files are text files), but I opened one of the MAC checkers set files, and it is mostly none printing characters. I would not have expected that so I downloaded the MAC version of the River Bridge. The pp2 in that was valid poser syntax. So it looks like a corrupt file issue. Perhaps it's meant to be a ppz?
I looked at the checkerboard and the stump in a hex editor. There is what I assume is a Mac file header at the top, followed by the normal Poser stuff and then the non-printing stuff at the end. The telltale keywords at the end "preview" and "PICT" indicate that this is probably the thumbnail image in PICT format that the Mac uses instead of the Windows Poser (pre .png) .rsr files. I have no way of knowing if any of this is garbaged but stripping it out leaves a .pp2 that loads fine in Windows Poser - without a thumbnail of course. Assuming you're not running Windows Poser on a Mac under emulation, I'm not sure what the problem might be. Try the PC versions as suggested. You'll probably have to make your own thumbnails, but at least it "should" work. If there's a Mac form here you might ask there.

I just downloaded some props made by Tyl2000 and they came in pp2 form. I have Poser 6 and it won't open them. It says they aren't proper Poser files. Is it my software? Do I need to massage the pp2's somehow? Or is there something with the translation between French and American downloads? Any help will be appreciated.
