Subject: 7.4 Display Issues

Hi,

just noticed some display issues with the 7.4 beta update and the latest 185.85 nvidia drivers.

The left one on the attached picture shows the sky when opengl "Preview Clouds" is enabled.

The right one shows the preview when loading a metacloud.

The good thing after the update:

It seems that there have been some memory optimations, I have far more free resources now when loading a scene.

Any Ideas in the display issues ?

I have already deleted the prv. files.

Ralf

Cheers

Ralf

I have this, too, though I know not why (so, at least you know you are not alone!).

I have also noticed you cannot adjust the light colour in the atmosphere editor when using a spectral atmos altho you can switch to volumetric, change it, then switch back to spectral ... odd.

Hi triangle,

although it does not solve the preview metacloud preview, it's good to here that it is not my very special problem :-)

And I can confirm the problem with changing light color on a spectral model.

I thinkg, this is why it is called "beta" :-)

Yes, I suspect so and, to be fair, when you download and install a beta you have to expect some issues to crop up :-)

I run the Nvidia 182.50 driver for Vista Ultimate 64bit - the left image problem doesn't appear running my Vue 7.4 beta - so not sure, if this is a graphics card driver or operating system issue.

The metacloud preview images on my Vue 7.4 beta are messed up the same way, like shown in the right image.
Looks like this has to be fixed by the programmers ... at least the metaclouds are loading correct.

triangle - yes, the light color selection in the Light-Tab is turned off using spectral atmo model. Looks like this was done on purpose, since with spectral atmo selected, it never had an effect anyway.
If you want to change overall sun and light colors using a spectral atmo, you can use the 'ambient light color' box in the Light-Tab in combination with the 'sky color' box in the 'Sky, Fog and Haze' Tab, giving you even more diversity in atmo lighting colors.

I think in 7.5 e-on did in fact change how diffuse light color works for all indirect lighting models.  It now relies exclusively on what you set the "overall skylight color" to.  This makes more sense to me as the additional "Light Color" box is redundant.  To change the color to your original blue, set the Overall Skylight Color."

Here's the answer to your light color issue (solution is from Dave Burdick). I have display issues as well, luckily they're more irritating than show stoppers

After reading this thread I realised I didn't have the latest Nvidia driver so downloaded 185.85.
My clouds don't display at all even after checking the appropriate box in the program options, but my 'MetaClouds' display just fine.

Boy I am glad I wait until these things are out of beta. Sorry I just don't jump when new patches come out right off I learned that the hard way in my old poser days.

Yep - I'm getting these weird red spots in 7.4 ... sometimes they're there, sometimes not.

FrankT ( ) posted Sat, 16 May 2009 at 3:03 PM

Yup, I get 'em too.  Looks quite pretty

I expect E-On will sort 'em out

Also, the preview picture of new saved vegetation looks similar to the metacloud image.....

I never uograde Vue before reading these threads first.
Now I know why. I'll just skip this "upgrade" for the time being.
Thanks guinea pigs. Not in a spiteful way, but I've learnt not to jump in too soon.

Also. metacloud previews are just noise.

Hi -
I downloaded the 7.4 (Complete) beta a few days ago, and the metacloud preview is the same (only noise-TNs) for me . The strange thing: If you access the folder ("Clouds") manually, the previews are there anyway! So at least that's a workaround, until they fix it.

Otherwise, I think the new features (esp. the material painter) and improved memory handling are great.

How do you mean "access the clouds folder manually?"

The speed at which metaclouds render seems incredibly fast to me.  A good fix.
