Subject: ANY SUGGESTIONS? P7 RUNTIME PROBLEM

johnr1969 ( ) posted Wed, 20 May 2009 at 3:58 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 6:15 PM

This is urgent. I have tried to add my old Poser 6 Runtime folder as a external Runtime in P7 using the + sign in the libraries but I get a message saying "That folder does not seem to be a Runtime folder. Choose a newruntime folder to add" I don't know what to do. Has anyone any suggestions???

The folder worker perfectly as a Runtime folder in Poser 6.

Any suggestions gratefully received

If it is not too big move it to the root C: and name it runtime and try that.

add the folder that contains the runtime , not the runtime itself

ie poser 6/runtime     add the Poser 6 folder

That's the solution. Poser doesn't like more then 1 Runtime folder. You will even have probs with names that contain runtime i. e. Oldruntime.

I have a new computer [MAC]. I installed Poser 7 fresh. Then I copied the Runtime from my previous computer into the Poser 7 folder on the new computer. Should I copy across the whole old Poser 6 folder including the Runtime?

I have tried re-naming the folder to Poser6 and putting the Runtime folder in another folder but I get the same message. Am I doing something wrong?

The Poser main Runtime folder contains folders that are part of the Poser program itself. By copying a previous version's main Runtime folder into your Poser 7 main Runtime folder you may well cause problems. You might need to re-install if you've overwritten any Poser 7 program files with Poser 6 versions.

Instead, just put your old Poser 6 Runtime folder into a new folder. Then add that new folder to Poser 7 as an 'external' Library.

I am on a Mac and all I did to link P6 content to P7 is navigate to the runtime folder inside the p6 folder and it works as expected. Don't go any deeper or shallower. I assume that makes sense.

The problem is when I go through to Libraries box in Poser which shows all the current Poser 7 content and press the + symbol at the bottom to add an additional Runtime it tells me my old Poser 6 Runtime "...does not seem to be a Runtime folder.." as above.

If after Poser has opened I change the name of the Runtime folders, that is change the name of the old Poser 6 Runtime folder to 'Runtime' and the current P7 folder to 'Runtime2' (for instance) then it imports the renamed P6 folder OK. But Poser 7 won't start up with the Poser 6/Poser 7 folders named in this way.

Is an externalm library different to what I have suggested above (ie adding an additional Runtime through the libraries)?

MarianneR ( ) posted Thu, 21 May 2009 at 6:49 AM

An external library is exactly what you said: adding an addtional Runtime through the libraries. And you can have several. I have sorted my content in different libraries to make it easier to find i e Victoria 4, Michael 4 etc.

I think there was somebody asking about a similar problem in the DAZ forums. I don't remember if there was a solutiion though.  Also IIRC there was somebody else whose external runtimes worked fine when they put them someplace in the Documents folder (Users/myusername/Documents/somefolderhere).

Also I find that I can add both a folder containing a Runtime folder and the Runtime folder itself to Poser 7 (mac, leopard, Intel). There's a folder called Runtime in my applications folder that either DAZ Studio or Carrara installed there. i tried adding that to Poser 7 and sure enough, it turns up in the list with the name "Applications". :)

Please read my answer above! Poser doesn't like more then one folder called Runtime. Your external runtime structure MUST be:

Folder name/ runtime/ ....

The Folder name must be different and it is not allowed that the name contains runtime as part of the name.

If you rename the runtime inside Poser 7 to runtime2, Poser will not fint this folder.

example

....Poser7/runtime/etc
...Poser6/runtime/etc
my documents/myposerstuff/V4/runtime/etc
my documents/myposerstuff/Buildings/runtime/etc

all the above are valid runtimes and will load to poser or daz studio using the underlined folder name

OK thanks for all the suggestions. I will re try the various options. Only success i have had so far is having the p6 runtime on an external drive. then it seems to accept it. i will try again.

many thanks
