Subject: Applying texture to a conical roof: Help please!

Izaro ( ) posted Tue, 26 May 2009 at 12:32 PM · edited Sun, 22 December 2024 at 9:39 PM

Despite a great deal of trial & error (particularly the 'error' part...) I seem to be no nearer getting my thatch texture to apply properly to a conical roof form than when I started!

Please would one of you kind souls take a look at my object/material & tell me what I need to do to get the thatch texture to wrap around the roof, rather than repeat on each facet of the roof surface (i.e. at the mo it is not carrying across the roof surface as desired)

Attached is the roof saved as a .vob with texture......

Many thanks

P.S. I'll also post in the e-on forum to cast my net before as many Vue gurus as possible...
P.P.S. Thanks to bruno21 for creating the seamless thatch textures

Hmmmm, having trouble uploading the .vob file..........

You can only post images here, I think...An image would help maybe to see the problem.

Good to hear from you again, Bruno.....

I've posted the files on my iDisk

You should start by changing all materials and sub materials to "object parametric" coordinates. It will make the textures bigger, but then you can change the image size back to 1.000 and it should give you a better starting point.

 Thanks...........I'll try that!

Bruno, you were spot on! Many, many thanks.

Settings for the relevant materials: Object parametric & cylindrical........marvellous

P.S. have you succumbed to PixPlant 2 yet?.........

No, but I won't resist too long. Thing is, I got Geocontrol2 today (cheap at Cornucopia), so I'll wait a little!

Now just trying to find the best way to avoid excessive change of material size from the point of the cone to the bottom edge (without overly obvious repetition/tiling).................experimenting with 'spherical', 'toiroidal', 'cylindrical', etc., mapping.

Any advice gratefully received!

P.S. if only PixPlant & GeoControl were written for the Mac I'd grab them as soon as possible!
