Subject: A Poser companion program

jstro ( ) posted Tue, 10 July 2001 at 7:13 PM · edited Tue, 11 February 2025 at 2:56 AM

I'm looking to buy a companion program for Poser and would like recommendations. I intend to use it primarily to build my own props, but would also probably like to do some morph targets (never done those yet). High end packages like 3DS are right out as far as my pocketbook can afford. Amapi and True Space are sort of the upper limit for my finances. So what would you folks recommend? I loved the ease of use of Nendo, but it seems to be a goner, so I'm looking for something to replace it. Thanks. jon

Anim8or........it isn't exactly 3D Studio MAX, but it does suit it's purpose.....and it's freeware ;) i create all of my props and morphs, at least until i can afford Rhino or something, and even then i'd bet my last dime that i'll still use Anim8or at times.......

Anim8or is what I learned morphing on. I also like OpenFX...www.openfx.org. Also, there is a freebie on Amapi...go to the Amapi forum, and grab the link, there. I am just loving that Amapi. It is not the newest version, but, with the "finger exercises....thank you Thip", provided at the Amapi forum...It is making alot of sense to me. Try the freebies. There are quite a few free modelling programs out there. See what suits you style, before you plop down money on a "paid" one. Pop...pop...pop!!!

heyas; go through 3dlinks' free/shareware and commercial modellers lists. find any/all demos. try them all. you'll find one that is right for you.

Mac or Windows? It will make a difference in the answer!

I have Windows. Sorry about that. I downloaded the free Amapi, but that version does not import/export .obj files. I'm considering buying Version 6, which does. I have Anim8or on my system, so I guess I will try and exercise that. Thanks for the advice. jon

Anim8or is good, but don't forget Amorpium 1 is free with this issue of computer arts. Amorphium looks vary easy to use. I don't think it offers a lot for an experienced 3d modelor though. Check out the downloads at: http://www.angelfire.com/tv/MDD go to CGI resources downloads. Best of luck. Deimos.

I believe I read in this forum somewhere, that Amorphium changes the face or vertex count when you take Poser models into it, making it difficult to use for morph targets. Is that not true? I want to be able to make props and morphs of the Poser people too. Thanks for the tip. jon

Anim8or is easiest for morphing. It shows the points really big. Plus, in free stuff, there is a utility called Morph Master. I downloaded it, and played a bit, looks like it might make morphing a snap:)
