Subject: Weird Monitor Flash with high-poly meshes

craftycurate ( ) posted Sun, 31 May 2009 at 4:24 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 12:40 AM

When working with a high-poly mesh e.g. 400K polygons I get this weird thing happening.

My screen flashes black for a half second or so, at regular intervals as Vue (7.4 Build 42999) tries to update the display. It's clearly a graphics carddriver related issue, probably OpenGL.

I have a laptop with an NVidia 7900 GS256MB, XP Pro XP3 and NVidia 179.48 Drivers.

This happened a few times, and then I had a BSOD (blue screen of death) citing an error with nv_disp.sys I think.

Has anyone else experienced this? Have you found any solutions or settings that need adjusted?

Thanks
Richard

Have you tried to turn off the cloud preview and all atmosphere preview in OpenGL menu? This is a very GPU intense process.

I've seen this as well with a 500000+ poly model of mine, but haven't had the BSOD. My openGL options are set pretty low (but then I only have a fx5500 256MB video card in my PC)..

I rolled back to 7.21 and the problem disappears - it's only with 7.47.4 beta ... so they've broken something in the OpenGL implementation.
