Subject: Who still likes Aiko 3 better than 4?

Would you still buy products made for her? Personally, I think Aiko 3 is better all around. Yeah, it's nice having V4 and A4 wear the same clothes for the most part, but Aiko 3's face is much nicer IMHO. It's a shame that people abandon the older models and nothing new is made for them.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings ;o).

I think I prefer A3 to A4, too, but TY2 is better than either of them    I used to use A3 a lot, but TY2, plus Wardrobe Wizard (especially WW2), plus the RDNA and/or D3D morphs, beats A3.   I have never taken to A4 at all.

LaurieA ( ) posted Wed, 27 May 2009 at 7:26 PM

I haven't taken to A4 either.

Sa_raneth ( ) posted Wed, 27 May 2009 at 7:49 PM

A4 aint on my fav list either  A3 is  hard to beat

Acadia ( ) posted Thu, 28 May 2009 at 12:27 AM

I still use A3. I do have A4, but have only pulled her out when beta testing. I haven't done a render with her.

I'm also an Aiko3 fan, have many clothes for her in the runtimes and mostly i play around with this figure and re-morph her alot.
Have Aiko4 also but never used her so far despite the fact that i bought some pretty morphs for this figure in the past.

Would i still buy clothes and stuff for A3... not likely since i already have way too many stuff + i also have Wardrobe Wizard 2 so...
But yes she is still my main figure :-)

A3 is a babe and so is A4. I use both and it depends on
the character you chose for them as how good they can be.
I started using Miki2 also now that you can get good morphs
for her. I think I love them ALL!

A3 all the way. Don't like the 4's at all. I'm still buying items for her once in a while. I'm a picky buyer so most of the stuff released for her I would never even consider buying. But at times something usable comes along.

Recently I got Wardrobe Wizard also and I must say it's a great help, been using it a lot, now I can use almost everything on any figure. Makes me buy less clothes though.

About Wardrobe Wizard now that you mentioned it ;^): how easy is it to use? How well of a job does it do? I've always been curious about it because there are clothes for one model that I'd like to use on another. Does PhilC retire the plugins for old models or does he keep them available? Because I love my old models and I don't want to give them up. I even have stuff from BBay and PoserStyle that I want to put back into Poser 7 ;o)

As an aside, I've been taking all my poser purchases off of the cds I have them on because I have a Terrabyte drive that I want to put them on then burn to DVD. I have over 30 gigs of stuff...LOL. I mean, I have been buying Poser stuff since Daz3D was still Zygote ;o). I've been at this darn program for a long, long time...LOL.

Anyway, back on track...

I don't think I'll ever give up Aiko 3. I have SOOO many outfits for her - probably more than any other figure except maybe Victora. I even plan to do more textures for the old outfits (and if I do I'll put em in freestuff). I still have never finished my texture set for the Elia Suit that I was planning to sell (I'm still sorry Xena). I still have all the files, but I fell ill around that time and never finished. Now that I think about it, I guess I have a lot of stuff to do!

P.S. As I was going thru my disks I found stuff from Dedicated Digital and Imagination Works. Anyone remember them? DD used to do some really, really nice free stuff but then the site just kinda went bye bye. I think CDs turned up later tho...

With some tweaking it works pretty good. The program itself is easy to use, although I haven't figured out what every excactly does. The clothes don't always convert perfect, you may need to do some tweaking in Poser after conversion. PhilC has good tutorials for that on his website and once you get the hang of it, it's very doable. After the tweaking the clothes do fit well.

At first I wasn't impressed, the quality seemed to be less then the original clothes, but once I found the smooth slider on the converted clothes, I was impressed. I've been using some of my old stuff on the newer figures now.

The cool thing is that it does shoes and hair also. It states short hair only, but I've done longer hair as well, but mainly toon hair.

I haven't seen any plugins retiring.

I like the Mil-4 figures but they are extremly buggy, especialy in P7.
So mostly I have gone back to Mil-3 figures.

...hehehe, EVERYTHING'S buggy in Poser 7 ;o). I've gone back to Poser 6 (yup, really). I can set something up in Poser 7 and can't get it to finish a render but I'll open it in Poser 6 and aftre the wrong version number message, it chugs right through the render. For those who are wondering...yes, I applied all my Poser 7 updates and I trashed the preferences file. No go. I'll be waiting for the next service release (if there is one).

As for the mil 4 figures, I've yet to see anything that looks better (or even as good for that matter) than my gen 3 figures. I'm in the process of changing all my clothes for Aiko 4 to Aiko 3 and everything else I like from any other figure ;o). I got licenses for Aiko 3 and Apollo Max last trip. Now it's time for Kali (of Kali and Kelm). Not sure how that will go over, but if there's a license, I'll have to get it...LOL.

Now that I think of it, whenever I start a scene, I always start with a gen 3 figure, Apollo or Kali or Kelm now. Everything else just isn't getting any love these days...hehe.

The DAZ gen 3 rig has some real technical problems in Poser that make it very frustrating to work with, e.g. adding bones around the Hip to rig a skirt - at some point around the 5th bone, one or more bones will just stop deforming the hip.  I'm pretty certain this isn't DAZ's fault, it's a bug in Poser that just tends to manifest most aggravatingly with the DAZ gen 3 rig.

And if some softhead feels inclined to tell me it's because I don't know what I'm doing I encourage them to take a look at the skirt rigs I've published.

I really don't know much about the technical aspects of modeling, rigging, etc. (tho I'd like to). I'm going on sheer looks alone ;o).

Well the point I was getting at was, there's a lot of very strong reasons why content makers have been quick to jump on the V4/M4 bandwagon, they're sometimes just way easier to work with from a technical standpoint.

I think of them as 2 different characters.   Sweet innocent A3 and tarted up A4.

Hehehehe...haven't used Aiko 4 really. Is she tarted up? LOL. But Aiko 3 IS sweet and innocent, isn't she? ;o).

The only thing I DO like about the Gen 4 figures is that you can mix 'em, and that makes the possibilities much greater for different faces and bodies. I'm sure in the end I'll buy the extra morph packs for them if I want to create content for them, but I'll prolly still use primarily the gen 3 figures in my images.

Same here...I just can not warm up to the Gen 4 figures. Not only are they terrible memory hogs, but they just look look so off putting to me...all the A4/V4 characters I've seen basically look alike (enough with the racoon eyed Lolitas already). V4 looks way too cartoonish in her face (complete with 1000 yard stare) to look very realistic, and A4 doesn't look cartoonish/anime enough to really justify calling her "Aiko" (just looks like V4 to me). Their bodies are too stylised and plastic looking.  The Gen4s do have a bit better bending and expressions to be sure, but I sorta feel like the Gen4s were a step back in many ways then the Gen3s.

I'm still using A3 as my primary doll even though I have V4/A4, because I have so far had greater success in animating A3.  I don't know just what it is about the V4/A4 rig that is harder for me to move smoothly and naturally.
