Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 30 8:14 pm)
are you serious? I have done a 6-8 hour animated render every day for last 2 months...... Not a single error/shutdown or loss of performance unless I try to do something at the same time like use poser. I7 is not overclocked.. can someone confirm how much processing power Vue is using whilst rendering?
hahah bruno!
100 is normal, if it wasnt running at 100% youd want to be miffed becuase it wasnt working as fast as it could.
Most processors are able to run at higher clock speeds anyway but limited to known safe levels, if you are still worried get a temp monitor like "real temp" and make sure that its not overheating but if you have a good heatsink over your CPU (and its not overclocked) you should be fine.

Thanks "breathes a huge sigh of relief) my computers on at home I am at work... I thought I might need to call the firebrigade!
I have been used to using poser but it rarely renders at more than 25% of 3 or four cores so when I downloaded a cpu gadget for the desktop last night ... all cores at 100% I almost freaked and turned the computer off for an hour! I am finally glad to have found a program that uses more than 50 % of the available resources and cannot belive how much faster renders are than poser I now don't use Firefly at all (just do it in Vue!). Anyone get better CPU usage from poser than me?

Because of the way Poser splits renders over the threads (you have setup to render with 4 threads ?) it's likely that one area ends up taking longer than the others, so you don't get as much benefit as you should (and it's limited to 4 threads, PoserPro may allow more).
Quote - yep got four threads selected have posted question in poser forum. Thanks for settling my mind about the procossing usage!
Processor usage is fine, but just be sure you have an EXCELLENT power supply in your PC and make sure there are plenty of case fans venting the air, not just a CPU/GPU fan. I have built many systems and prefer to use a cooling system for a machine that stays on that long running intense processes.
The other thing you may want to consider is getting at least double or more your RAM. With Windows 7 and Vue 7.5 for Widnows 64 bit you can use much more than what you have and do your scenes faster.

Quote - I have 6 Gig of DDR3 ram in triple channel. I have read on forums that 12 Gigs does not make even the slightest difference... please correct me if I am wrong. Although my CPU maxes out at 100 % all the time the ram usage doesn't go further than 5 gigs
I can not give you an answer for certain on this question, but I do know that my 10GB using Boot Camp on my Mac Pro does provide VERY nice render times. There was an article in 3D World Magazine and a no holds barred PC they do annually in Maximum PC magazine. I will try to find those and see what they say. Right now, I think your GPU and RAM are highly important and things are changing under Windows 7 and Mac "Snow Leopard" very soon for 64bit RAM usage and limitations being put to rest. I do know that Windows XP 64 bit is different in it's RAM utilization over Windows 7 so I will see what I can find out. In the mean time, check out Maximum PC web site and others like Toms Hardware and ArsTechnica for more.

Does Vue 7 use graphics card to render , or is it just cpu? I have 4870 radeon
I thought that windows xp could not use more than 3 gig ram... I upgraded XP to vista and noticed Vista far speedier especially with 3d programs not so much in gaming ... upgraded to windows 7 RC and its better still. I asked the question a while back should I get 12 gig and was advised well against it. But I do find Vue can look a bit of a mess at times when putting scenes together.
If you are rendering for very long times and your computer is in a warm environment, check out the motherboard, hard disks and CPU temperatures with a program such as SpeedFan.

Amazing program it renders so fast I have core i7 920 and all cores are working 100 % all the time sometimes for an 8 hour animation render. If all cores are working @ 100 % all that time and ram at about 5 gig usage is this likely to do damage to my pc/blow it up? It definatly is using all the cores to that extent even if I watch a movie it stutters!! The sheer power
