Hello all ;)

If you where wondering, this is not a message to know how to locate the plants in Vue, I was able to find them ^_^.

This is more a message to ask which plant sets are really nice to have and which ones are better avoided. I intend to start adding plants and trees to my collection and am looking for trees or plants with a good resolution for closeup and if possible a way to go back for further away work ^^

If you have any good vendors / brokers / ... to advise, I would be very glad ^^,

I doubt you will get people telling you which ones to avoid and then get into trouble:-(   But I suggest you get the high definition trees for a start, available at Cornucopia 3D.  :-)

Ah yes, I can imagine that telling which ones to avoid might bring some trouble :P

I'll bring down my question to something easier... I'm hesitating to buy the Realms art packs which seem nice, but would those trees also help for closeups? Or should I buy the more expensive trees which say that they have a lot of polys?

Just saw that you can download 4 trees for free, so I'll try those ones and see if they are good ;)

I've been very pleased with both the Realm art and Lush plants I've bought.  Some plants are more usable in close up than others and you may need to think about using hero plants modeled for close up work if you need them very close to the camera.  However I've had good results with plants in reasonable close up in the past.  I'm pretty certain this reed came from one of the Realm Art packs.

Maybe it is worth first to understand the two different types of plants that can be used in Vue.

#1 The SolidGrowth plants that are native Vue and have the extension .veg. The good thing iof those are that they react to breeze and wind AND (more important even) , each plant from a species that you add to a scene looks slightly different to all others in the scene. Even in ecosystems this works. Realms, Lush and others are done this way and are variations of existing plants that come with Vue (or can be bought for).

#2 So called static plants. These are done in other External programs - like XFrog, Tree Pro etc - and come in as imports. Their extension (when offered for Vue directly) is vob, the Vue object format. They DO NOT react to wind or breeze and they do not vary within a scene. But because they are done in highly specialized programs (normally), they can be used for much closer close-ups as Vue internal plants.

Both types you can get for example at Cornucopia3D (or here at Renderosity) and of course my plants are the best! :D

Forgot to say Wabe's plants are excellent and Martin's ones too. I think that I've mentioned all the big name plant makers now but if I missed someone a small donation to my moat cleaning fund will help me remember ;-)

For .veg plants all of the makers who have been mentioned here are good. I have plants from all of them and have been very happy.
For static plants I have used mostly those form Lisa's Botanicals (via Daz) and RDNA sources.
I will often use plants from 4 or 5 or more makers in a single scene.
I've tried making my own and it's hard work, so I have a great respect for all of those who have specialized in this area.

Which version of Vue are you using - as in Vue 7 infinite you'll have a lot of "base" veg plants included ! Also if you have Botanica module , you can do a lot of nice things too !
