Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
OK, I did try this. I used a high res ball with a glass mat and buried the point light inside of it. I rendered. Renders fine. So I parent the point light to the ball and - yes it did - the point light goes away. However when you render the light is still there, even when I move it, so you should be fine. Just a Poser quirk I guess ;o)
I'm not sure what's going on with your light colors, because that doesn't happen for me. Sounds like a memory issue because Poser does white out for me if I'm not nice and have other programs open while I'm using it ;o). What DOES happen for me with colors is that if I'm taking just a little to long to chose a color, the color reverts to white even when I click on a color in the color bar. Chose your color fast and see if that works. I know that sounds really dumb, but it happens to me all the time, especially if it's a color to the lighter colors at the top or the darker colors at the bottom near the edges of the bar.

LaurieA, you hit the nail right on the heaad with light colors. I just dld an update to my video card and now if I hover over the light colors Poser DOESEN'T white out, my colors are still there but I have to choose my color twice ie: first click I end up wih a white light but if I choose the same color and click on it a second time it works, I guess it has something to do with the video drivers, I could be wrong though. Try updating your video drivers, if you haven't already and see what happens.
But as far as the lights are concerned I canget up to eight point lights before the ninth goes out. It's rather frustrating when you're so close and work so long to have something look good just to have the lights go out. And I don't thing it has to do with memory either cause I got 4gig 'course Vista 32 only sees 3 and my hard drive is a 500gig so the swap file is quite large, oh well, I'll just keep trying till I get it right, that is if I don't go crazy trying first.
Just a little update. I was playing in Poser and found that if you create more than 8 lights in a scene the ninth will be out, and it doesen't matter what light you create. the magic number is no more than eight, at least if you want a glow effect from your point lights. Also the color box that comes up when choosing a color, if you hover to long, more than likely the light will be white but if you choose your color at a faster rate you'll get your color. Also I used the color box whis is on the top right hand corner of the color pop up and you can keep it ope for as long as you want, whatever color you choose you'll get your color, at least I did.
The 8 lights thing is not magic... it's a limitation of OpenGL.
Additional lights will render okay, you just won't be able to see them in an OpenGL Preview.

Really being a newbee to poser lights, I'm creating a scene which requires the use of point lights. After placing the lights I try to parent the lights to the item, ie:candel, after parenting the light, the light disapears, literally, yet when I go to te Light controls the light is still there. Can anyone give an explanition for this or am I doing something wrong?
Secondly, whenever my cursor hovers over the color box to change the color of a light, Poser WHITES out, in other words it locks up and my Library tab, my Parameters tab, the little box which you select your colors for the lights and my Preview window all turn white, if I click a second time it clears it up but the color I've chosen is not there and the light is white.
