Subject: Anyone use Motionbuilder?

Hello all!

Is there anyone around who has a Poser/DAZ - Motionbuilder - Poser/DAZ pipleline? Or know if it's possible? I've found tutorials that show it is possible, but they are outdated (They show V2, and have steps I cannot find in the newer version of the software..) Here's the link to the tutorial: http://www.3dlinks.com/MotionBuilder-Poser.cfm

I was wondering if it is possible to get the default V4.2 figure [Doesn't have to be textured or anything] into Motionbuilder... creating an animation there, then exporting it back into DAZ Studio/Poser as a .bvh, and having it look the exact same as it did in Motionbuilder?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm hoping to find someone who has actually experimented in this :]

Thanks!

What is the advantage of using Motion Builder instead of Poser's animation tools? Seems like extreme overkill.

Well honestly motionbulders animation tool will blow away posers
in every possible aspect  but.....
Unless you are eligible for Student pricing( $1300)
 Motionbuilder cost $4000!!!

If you are looking for a very decent poor mans alternative to use with poser figures Consider getting a free copy of DAZ studio and buying
anMate+ for D/S

I just wish DAZ Studio had Inverse Kinematics :[

But I've decided I'm just going to put up with Poser's IK for now.. I need to stop trying to perfect everything or I won't get anything done.

Wasn't aware that D|S doesn't have IK, but my point was that MotionBuilder seems a bit heavy-handed. Can it comfortably handed that many polys and produce (near) real time screen updates? Maya cannot. That's why I go lo-res.

To me, Motion Builder is worth its weight in gold.
My company's pipeline is MoCap-to-Motion Builder-to-Carrara for rendering. (I might add a Mimic layer here and there to save time)
Characterizing any DAZ figure for use in Motion Builder is a piece of cake! As long as your renderer supports FBX you're good to go.
Even on a mid-range machine MB will give you perfect real-time playback of your animations as you work; a must for any serious animator.
Obviously the price tag is a bit heavy, so if this is something you're doing for fun by all means take Wolf359's advice and grab AniMate. It's good stuff!
