Quote - When did imitation cease to be the sincerest form of flattery?

Put another way, does the owner of the Raider of Tombs franchise really feel that images similar to their character, created by hobbyists for their own enjoyment, threatens their economic opportunities?...

Believe me when I tell you, the issue is certainly not related to "images similar to [Lara Croft]".
Eidos is all for flattery via imitation , which is why, for years,  they've been posting fanart on their site and providing fanart kits.

Quote - Action Hair is gone.  Apparently someone trademarked the pony-tail.

Hmmm, looks like it's back now. : )

It has been a while and I have been looking for some official word on what is going on.

Any official word on what actually happened and where those of us who purchased these items stand in terms of use now?

No official word,  and I wouldn't expect any, either, since there would have to be some sort of internationally recognized legal action.  I paid for 'em, they weren't ripped out of the game itself, so I'm sitll using them.

Interestingly, Eidos (soon to be Square Enix EU), allows and encourages the actual game models to be ripped and fan art using the ripped models is all over the official TR forum and the much larger un-official TR forum.  In response to magicmooddesigns above, if it's TR porn you're worried about, it now proliferates in vast profusion using the actual models and textures from the latest Tomb Raider game, all with the unstated but evident blessing of Eidos itself.

If you have a concern about this, it would be better to ask in the customer support forum, this is just a discussion forum and the support staff probably doesn't monitor it that closely.

I am interested in whether I can still use the products or if the Merchant end of the EULA is broken. Even though I have no intention of creating Lara Croft images or "TR Porn" I do use, and plan to use in the future, the products I purchase here commercially as provided for in the EULA. Since the Treasure Hunter Product line and the Irina Adventuress Product were all pulled I need to know where my use stands. No sense in having Edios, Electronic Arts, or whoever owns the Tomb Raider franchise currently, coming after me for the Commercial use of these products.

For example If I use Irina Adventuress for a render, in a Tomb Raider type setting or not, and then put that render on a T-Shirt which I then sell (allowed under the EULA) will I then get smacked with a cease and desist order? I am working in good faith. Changes to the status of a product of this nature, especially considering how long some of these have been on the market, need to be brought to the attention of the consumer, and refunds issued where appropiate.
