Subject: Help-how can I move two limbs at the same time using one dial?

I have vicky in a sitting position and I want to animate her moving both shins at the same time, kinda like you would do if you were swinging. But I don't want to have to reposition both shins separately to get the effect. Can I build a morph target or something (maybe magnets, I don't know) to get them to move at the same time using only one dial? Maybe I'm heading in the wrong direction. Need advise!! Thanks

You can do this with 'ERC'. It takes some cr2 hacking. It is explained at rbtwhiz's site.

That would be JCJ, Joint Controlled Joint, but you don't have to do any hacking if you don't want to. Study Rob's tutorial, then this one: http://www.zenwareonline.com/cr2edit/tutorials/Working%20With%20ERC.html This is for CR2Edit5, due out in a couple days, Ver4 does a more limited sub-set of ERC, but upgrade path cheaper Dan http://www.neca.com/~dwilmes/cr2edit.html Sorry Win only for software http://www.zenwareonline.com for ZenPaint, ZenTile, ZenGrid and VueMaster

heyas; why don't you position one, then use the figure:symmetry:right leg to left leg (or vice versa)? if you want the shins the same, but not the thighs or feet, you can pose one, then copy and paste it's dial settings to the other. you could also try turning on leg ik and parenting both feet to an invisible prop, and then swinging the prop back and forth. this might not work so great, though. making an erc is just so intensive (and if you slave one shin to the other, what else would you use that figure for?).... it might be faster/easier to just pose both shins ;)

WOW!! Thanks

Doing a simple JCJ like this takes approximately 15 seconds, once the file is loaded. If you don't want to use the JCJ in another figure, just set the dial to 0. ERC is particularly useful for animation, because you would have to set each frame. You could also set the Control Ratio so that the second shin doesn't move exactly in sync with the first, so that it looks more realistic. Also, try setting up a TCJ from the hip controlling the JCJ so that as the figure's hip moves forward the shins straighten, as it moves back the shins bend. Also a small JCJ on the thighs, to add a little movement to them, also controlled by the TCJ. Then all you would have to do is swing the figure back and forth and the rest would happen automatically. ERC is an animator's best friend. With the proper setup, you can bend a figure at the waist and have it execute a martial arts kick while properly positioning the arms/hands while the hair (if poseable) flies out. All by turning one dial. Once you understand the principles, the possibilites are endless, and the time saved immense. I'll try that. Thanks dwilmes
