A comparison of armors - what you get for free vs. what you pay for, you decide what is better. 1. Chain Maille Bikini - Free, by MJBS 2. Female Paladin - Free, by John Malis 3. Orleans - Free, by ISO 4. Battle Princess - Purchased from Bbay, by Traveler 5. LM Armor - Free, by Lourdes Mercado Do not ask ME for URL's as to where I got them. I don't have the time to re-post for you. Somebody else may have the time, but I don't. If you reply with a URL request I will not answer, but others are welcome to.

There all great, but 2 and 3 suit my work best. The problem is John Mallis work is not free for commercial work (at least I don't think it is); and number 3 may be fine I am uncertain but I think that is free for commercial work. Don't get the wrong Idea I think there is nothing wrong with giving a way some thing free, and putting commercial limitation on them. I have done the same thing. My work has been downloaded over 7000 times :) I would say Travelers works is great, and when you think how much he gives a way free, the tutorials, the cost of his software, internet providor, server, and and how long it would take me to do the same thing I suspect it is a steel at the price he is charging. Also sales like these help keep these sites like Renderosity.com and 3D commune in business or at least as well run as they are. As for number 1, nice texture map and posibly transparency may thanks for helping the community.. Though I don't know, are you happy with your purchase or not. Do you do commercial work or is it all just for fun?

John Mallis site is at posergamers.critical-depth.net, but i believe he directs you to another site to be able to download since critical-depth no longer allows downloads from their site. He has a number of great characters and worht a search. Hope it helps...

Anyone know where #3 can be found at?

I think #3 can be found at Digital Babes. Number 3 also happens to be my personal favorite, since it's the most realistic depiction of armor I've seen so far. Number 2 comes close, but is a little too ornate and the chest plate/shoulder pieces would never work in real life. For fantasy armor, however, #2 rocks! #1, 4 & 5 are all interesting in their own right, but it must be a pain using surgical glue to keep their armor in place all the time... traditional straps and buckles would work much better

I don't do commercial work - no where neer that good with this yet. I'm still at the hobby part, so that doesn't bother me. Actualy what got me to purchase Traveller's Battle Princess is the quality of the free stuff he gives away.

#2 is at http://posergamers.critical-depth.net/....his downloads are available again (great stuff ;) but he's asking to not go crazy with the downloads. #3 is at http://www23.freeweb.ne.jp/photo/isop2400/product.html i actually just downloaded that one yesterday :) hope this helps

I do not have #1 and #5 so I can't compare them. However I do have the rest of them...they are all different and that is what I look for when I purchase or download any item..is the differences in what I already have. I do mostly fantasy/medieval work so the more I have to choose from the better it is. Traveler's armor is excellent, and Tygercub, it does have leather straps and rivets etc...it definately shows how she gets in and out of it some things are unrealistic, but the render above doesn't really do it justice :) ..Eric has also made some excellent textures to go with his and they also are extremely well made. I wish he would do more, I'd gladly pay for them. I'm in the middle of a piece right now using his armor. I consider his pricing more then fair and was pleasantly surprised. His work is worth it on many levels. The only thing I would have liked to see would have been a chainmail shirt underlying the chest piece...he didn't have it so I will paint one on in post work. :) As I said the ones that I own and have used have all been good quality work. I have paid more for armor and was disappointed, but I did not know the artisian or his reputation so since then I have become very, very picky on what I spend my money on. With Traveler's armor I am NOT disappointed one iota, I have been pleasantly and marvelously surprised :) Do I resent having had to pay for this? No, because it is different from the others that are out there and I knew going in it would be of good quality. I also knew that he would stand behind his work and be available should I run into any problems. Makes a HUGE difference :) Now if you ask me if I had WISHED it was for free LOL!! Entirely different question :) Pendarian

You are missing PhilC's armor (Lady Knight) I think I paid $30-40 for the Lady and her horse, both with armor and texture maps, and a selection of weapons. You have to go through a step to apply the bump maps, but the final effect is quite nice. (I also appreciate his smart-props.) BTW, I wouldn't count any chain mail bikini as adaquate protection, if it shows the nipples. Note: just because one artist gives his work away, it doesn't diminish the value of another artist's time.
