The short answer is yes, but beyond that it depends on what you're trying to
accomplish, and it also depends on how the prop is constructed.

Do you just want a Body, or do you want mechanical joints, or smooth
organic joints?  Does the prop already have parts (groups) or is it purely
one OBJ file with no zones or separations?

Hi Ockham,
The prop is a hair prop.
It has braids.
It is all 1 obj with material zones.
I would like to add some bones to the braids to make them move.

You'll need to take apart the OBJ into Groups first.

Again it depends on how it's organized.  If each braid has only one
material zone, then you're totally out of luck.  But if each segment of
each braid has its own material, then the job is worth trying.

You can use Poser's grouping tool to transform material zones into Groups.
Create a New Group, give it a name for the material you're looking at,
then hit Add Material and find this material.
Create another New Group, give it a name for the next material, and hit
Add Material and find this material.
Finally resave the OBJ.

After all this, you can take the OBJ into the Setup Room and organize
the joints.

===============

This is a lot of work, and I suspect you'll find it a lot easier to keep the
whole thing as a prop, and use magnets to set up a curve morph for
each braid.

Thanks ockham,
I think you're right. I had better stick to magnets right now.

You dont actually need to group your prop first . If you take it into the setup room , and add bones to it you can use autogroup in the group editor.  That allocates the closest polygons to each bone . For a hair with braid it should work ok.  Leave bend on for each section and adjust the inclusion and exclusion angles. You may not need spherical zones.

One it has bones it is a figure .

Multiple braids that are too close together may be a problem :(

Is it a freebie prop somewhere?

I've been doing a lot of boning lately.

umm, i meant figure boning.  mm, still doesn't sound right.

prop figure setup.  That's what I meant.
