Subject: My Poser Keeps Crashing after I load a prop or try to pose a figure

CStrauss ( ) posted Wed, 29 July 2009 at 11:35 PM · edited Sat, 07 September 2024 at 1:41 PM

For some reason for the life of me I cant figure out why my poser is doing this. Im using Poser 7 and its been hard to get anything done in it lately.

I load a figure usually m4 or v4 and I start loading morphs, props etc then all the sudden poser crashes and gives me a message saying poser has stop working windows vista will let you know when there is a fix for this blah blah blah message.

Not sure why it does this or how to fix it or if it can be fixed I done everything from simply uninstalling poser and reinstalling to the most drastic completly reinstalling my OS >.< and it still does it. I have all the latest updates so perhaps someone who had this problem and fixed it can help me. Maybe its something with the daz M4 and V4 models cause it only seems to do that when i use those models. anyways sorry if this problem been posted some where but if any one can help please reply

Hi CStrauss !
I assume you've kept the content of your runtime , maybe reinstalling V4/M4 and morph++ may help .
I had some troubles when using an USB key for Vista's ReadyBoost , it seems that some corrupted data were saved on it so I've stopped using this function.

Also in Poser ,Edit/General preferences/Misc tab  disable "Use external binary morph targets ".

Hope this helps .

I will try that, I also tried running the program as admin and it didnt crash, so maybe that might be the problem too. As far as the use external binary morph targets that was another idea but wast real sure what that did or if it was needed to load in saved scenes or not so i have it checked for now.

And no i didnt keep my content when i reinstalled though about it but figured it would be best to reinstall everything from scratch.

But right now i really think when i run poser i have to run it as admin which makes the most sense for now since until it starts crashing again then i will look at a different reason. So the question I have now is what does the binary morph target thing affect and what will I lose by turning it off?

Online Now!

If it is an admin issue with Vista, the best recommendation is to install Poser as a separate folder file in your hard drive and not into Program Files.  Vista has major issues with apps trying to save into that folder if proper admin right protocols are not set.

If possible, use another drive (ex. D:) than the default one (C:). Also, try changing your viewport display mode from OpenGL to the other one.. think it's called SpreeD. Worked for me.

Does it crash when you move the camera?  Have you tried updating video drivers and/or change the preview render mode?

Well basically it would crash when I moved or selected anything on figure or try to use the menu but I think I got it solved, I been running program as admin and havent had a crash yet since so maybe that was the problem. Running it not as a admin.
