Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 14 2:19 am)
Honestly, from that angle, I thought the shoulders looked pretty good. Even IRL the musculature twists a bit when you raise your arms like that, although perhaps not quite that much. But I'd say that what you have doesn't make the viewer think, "Huh. Yeah, typical 3D."
But I'm sure you'll find ways to improve it. :)

Quote - What if toe caps where widen on the inside of the toe with a morph (like the hide brows many figures have ) this way they will always be there and the switch would be just a morph
If you can add morphs to parented pp2 files to allow for toe spreading, big toe up and down, in and out and all toes bend up and down and side-to-side, why can't they just be smart props for the toes... with their own materials tex/trans it would work sweetly....wouldn't it!?
The shoulders look alright to me, but the elbows stood out to my eye. The point is too low on the bends so it looks upside down to me. You overwhelmed our sense, Olaf. She looked good before, she looks a LOT better now. A BIG upgrade was something of a shock.

You better sit down then until you're over that shock.
The elbows are a bit tricky because of all the twisting one needs to do for poses like this. The shoulders have problematic poses, too, but not this one. Still, there's a dent between the pectoral and deltoid muscle that I don't like. These are just my first versions of the JCMs, though, so I'm sure there's room for improvement, particularly with all the practice I got from tweaking the leg bends.

That is WHY most mesh-makers have trouble finishing most of their rigs! They get good at it, and keep finding faults to fix, until new programs are released and they drop dead from old age.
Watch out for that, mate. It CAN get you!

See, that's why I distribute those previews. If you guys find me collapsed by the wayside, someone else can pick up the project.
But don't worry. Legend has it that I once finished a Ph.D. (*) Granted, I was much younger then, and stronger. Still, even now I laugh in the face of allegedly impossible deadlines.
(*) This is a joke that quite possibly only grad students and their closest friends and relatives can appreciate.

Dead-lines like 'years later'? Well, DOCTOR Olaf, we do wonder sometimes. Good thing you are planning ahead for your road-side demise, and leaving us something to work with!
Shows you are a smart noggin, mate.

Well, Antonia is almost four years old now. What I'm saying is, I always finish my projects, even if it takes years. Another way to look at it is this: when y'all think she's good enough, simply harass me into opening up the license, and you can have fun playing while I still sit in my chamber and grumble about her imperfections.
Anyway, since everyone seems to be happy with the new shape, I'll get her ready for a developers release now, so you guys can start updating your morphs and clothes. This time I think I'll include the low-poly version, as well.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Are we talking about Antonia or politics?????
BTW odf, maybe if Daz had spent 4 years on Vicky we'd have a more realistic looking human...lol.
Your figure is without a doubt the most realistic Poser figure I've ever seen and I say that in all sincerity. She looks natural, not like a caricature of a human being. It think you've got the body shape and head size down pat. I've no doubt the masses will love her :o).
Laurie
Back on topic: I've baked the new breast shape into the base mesh today and added some morphs that will go back to the old shape. That's only for low-poly so far. Tomorrow, I'll apply the new shape and all the morphs to the old high-poly mesh from the April 14 preview that most of you will have. Then I'll have a look at the contributed morphs I have in my runtime and see if they still work with the new mesh. If that looks good, I'll put together a runtime for export, zip it, test it, and upload it.
Since it's been a while since the last preview, I might actually put it in my file locker here instead of hiding it on the developers site.

Well, they were developing a product. For me, it was more a study in anatomy and mesh topology.
Also, to be honest, I did a lot of work in the first 6 months or so, and then very little in the following 2 years.

To be good at anything, you have to practice. Four years of off and on tinkering sounds about right. If you had in mind what you wanted, and practiced on wings3d for that period, I can see why Antonia looks so good.. You also did a ton of stuff in the real world, so this is pretty balances an endeavor, IMO. Keep at it, Olaf. The proof is in the results.

Quote - Actually, I go to lunch every day in the cafeteria of our spanking new medical research school. From the looks of that building, medical research must be pretty damn profitable as science goes.
With all those grants and subsidies makes one wonder why they would rush to find a cure for anything. I mean, if they find a cure in a year what are they going to do for more funds to keep their jobs!?
Quote - That is super nice! A really nice face.
BTW I know the "Antonia Full Preview 2009-04-14" build on odf RMP home page... is that the latest are is their a later version elsewhere? Is the developer version available to regular folk? Where is it?
Thanks for the greeting, odf :)
The stuff in my file locker here is all there is.
As I said, I'll soon put up a new version there. It's been a long time, but the cr2 was in a somewhat chaotic state that I didn't think was good for sharing. I'll clean this up now, and then hopefully I can keep you folks updated more regularly.

Quote - So I made some face morphs for antonia and did a quick render with some them combined together. I plan on doing the nose next then I have to learn how to make an inj file.

Quote - Thanks, rjjack! I guess what I really meant is whether D|S would accept a pose file made for Poser that switched the geometry. I've seen that pull-down menu as well, but I don't remember if one needed any plugins to get that. Well, we'll see. I'll try some things when the time comes, and then the DAZ users can tell me where it breaks.
Howdy - from what I remember, the pose files to switch geometry works in D/S (3 and earlier). This from playing with Kirwyn's K figure (switching the feet to shoes), and various Sixus1 figures (Blind Guardian, HER changeling, Behemoth BoP outfit etc). Both the dropdown box under geometry, and applying the pose to change, work without a hitch.
Love what you're doing with Antonia, awaiting the next release eagerly!
ps I've seen some folks make everything into a conformed figure (including guns, swords etc), and it just doesn't work too well for the most part. Long hair can be ok, but I've found that if it isn't (fairly tight) clothing then a prop works better.

Maybe this will help you aella. It uses Hexagon, but I'm sure you may learn something from it still.Laurie
Wow! Those are some really cool morphs you're making.
Be aware that at the moment, Antonia does not have any empty morph channels like the DAZ figures do. So you'd either have to modify the cr2 and add those channels manually or use a Python script that creates them on-the-fly. I was going to look into the latter method, even if it's not P4-proof, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

With Poser 4 soon to be 4 versions back, I'm thinking maybe you shouldn't worry so much about that anymore ;o). If you are, make one specifically for P4, like a dumbed-down version.

Well, I was going to just use PMDs, which can create their own morph channels. But people have pointed out that apparently those get corrupted easily and also don't necessary work with other applications that can read Poser files. I don't think either D|S or the various bridging and import tools can execute Poser Python scripts, so we'd still have that problem even if we ditched P4 support.
I just thought maybe a standalone program that would read a cr2 and an injection pose and spit out a new cr2 with the necessary channels added might work. I'd really like a scheme were each morph name would be prefixed by the name or initials of its creator and I could thus, for example, easily mix and match morphs by Aella, Jules and Joel.

Quote - That would be nice :). Don't know if it's doable, but nice ;). I'm sure someone will find a way!

Oh, it's totally doable. The question is, can I ask users to install a standalone Python on their machines and then call a script each time they want to start using a new morph package?

Quote - I agree with RorrKonn. However, there are utilities that can convert Python scripts to standalone executables, such as Py2EXE(Windows) or Py2APP(Mac OS).
Unfortunately, that doesn't help, because for those Windows executables to work, you need a particular DLL, which you can only redistribute if you own a license for it, which I don't. Which means that I'd have to ask people to install it themselves, which is no better than asking them to install Python.
Come to think of it, maybe distributing Antonia with a built-in sissy filter wouldn't be so bad, after all. :tongue1:

1 vote for INJ-ready channels.
I though about making some morphs for Antonia but had decided to wait since I can't do PMD's. If there were empty channels ready to accept INJ poses that would make it easier for Studio users (like me) to start working with her.
[lurk mode]
I'll do INJ-ready channels if I have to. But I think it's high time we found a better workaround for Poser's missing ability to create a morph channel via a pose file. If we use a fixed set of blank injection channels, that means we can never mix morph sets made by different vendors unless those vendors explicitly made sure that they used a disjoint set of channels.
Studio has scripting. It should be no problem to write a script to create exactly the channels a particular morph set needs. The same is true for Poser 4 Pro Pack and up. If someone refuses to use DAZ Studio or any Poser version made in this millennium and furthermore is not willing or able to go to python.org, download an installer and click a few buttons, I don't see why that should be considered my problem.
It doesn't even have to be Python. Java works just as well. Most people have Java installed these days, no?
-- I'm not mad at you, just Westphalian.
On second thought: blank channels don't cost me anything. I can add some to the figure and provide scripts that generate them on-the-fly. Then it will be up to vendor which system they use.
I can even take an inj pose that uses the builtin channels and map it onto vendor-specific ones.
So, how many channels do you want, and how should I name them?
-- I'm not mad at you, just Westphalian.
I have always favored the idea of INJposes that include a readscript or whatever it is callled to run a python to create the channels as a simple "one-click" solution... the REMpose /could/ likewise call a script to delete the blank channels.
My damn V4/A4/G4 situation is a mess since the update app and installs seem always to be a mess.
For ordinary freebie morph producers I had always hoped someone would release an open liscence script for stripping a morph .obj for distribution and then a script that could be applied with a .pz2 file and which could be easily edited with a text editor to point to a simple geometry folder with the stripped .obj.

the script exist and was written by svdl, you can find it in many fits for GND4 made by Alizea and Phoenix1966 on the Renderosity Freestuff or ShareCG, some assembly is required to make it work with your INJ

The elbows look better than Viki's when bent that way.
And so do the shoulders.
I really have to work to get similar poses for Vicki to look right because of the shoulder and elbow bends.
Will this new one need a different UV map or will that stay the same?
