Subject: Do you really need Windows® Internet Explorer® 7 for Poser 8????

aeilkema ( ) posted Wed, 05 August 2009 at 2:49 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 4:08 PM

The system requirements state that Windows® Internet Explorer® 7 is needed to run Poser 8, is that really a requirement?

I don't even use IE at all......

Hi,
I rarely use IE, I prefer Opera.  No probs downloading or running P8.

Best regards,

I must admit that a requirement such as that makes me wonder just what is going on?

I haven't noticed anything about Windows 7 either. I'm not sure my current machine has the oomph to handle Poser 8, and if I go to 64-bit with excessive amounts of RAM, it looks as though it will be a choice between Windows  7 and Linux/WINE.

And the file sizes for downloads are worryingly large. Why couldn't they have split up the 1,5 gigs of content?

I'm not going to hurry.

The reason Windows 7 isn't listed is because it's still just a beta/release candidate and not an official operating system. If they were to list Win 7, they would have to support it.
For that matter Microsoft doesn't even support Windows 7 RC 1 and won't until the RTM (Release To Manufacturers) version is out.
You won't find any software companies officially endorsing using their products under Windows 7 right now. I can't even get technical support for Kaspersky Internet Security for Windows 7, in spite of the fact it's the beta FOR Windows 7.

But ziggie (and I think one or two others) has already posted that it runs fine under Win 7.
Windows 7 is more or less Vista, and I haven't yet found anything that won't run under Windows 7 other than McAfee Internet Suite. Everything that runs under Vista should also run fine under Windows 7. McAfee won't, because an anti-virus is tied in more closely to the shell than a program such as Poser, or most other programs, so it's more dependent on OS build.

On the Windows 7 front, I will add that last minute changes to Vista or the supporting files (Drivers) broke many programs that claimed they would work on Vista before it was officially released. I think everyone learned from that, including Microsoft!

Wow, so there is another Opera user. I love it, much better than IE. Just won`t work on my Amazon account.

Poser 8 requires Flash 10 to display the Libraries Palette, so if Flash 10 requires IE 7, then Poser 8 requires IE 7. ;)

I don't use IE either but I've never upgraded from version 6 and Poser 8 starts just fine. After installing Flash 10, the Libraries Palette also displays just fine. So, it's probably safe to assume that you don't actually need IE 7.
