Subject: Shipping costs to Europe physical shipment

Smith micro,

Do you realize that your are asking euopean customers $199 for the full version off poser 8 physical delivery , and that delivery costs are $47.55 that is 24%.

Why do european customers of poser since version 1 always have to pay this kind off ridiculous costs for delivery..

Why don't  we have a possibility to order this poser 8 promotion for $199 with normal shipping costs here in europe

So we don't need ups shipping here in Europe.

Or are we forced to buy the electronic version ?

I don't want a download version because then i do have only one platform download, or Mac or Windows/vista.

For what reason is de digital download version limited to one platform anyway ??

I am a legal poser pro ownwer, if i buy poser 8 now as you suggest in your mail ( the best i should do ) now i have to pay $47,55 for shipment.

The moment poser pro 2010 is out a get a reduction for the upgrade to poser pro 2010, because i already have poser pro 7 and poser 8, but i will have to pay a second time the $47,55 for shipment when i upgrade.

So upgrading from poser pro 7 to poser pro 2010, with a temporarely solution to buy poser 8 in between as physical shipment, will costs me nearly $100 for shipping.

Here in the netherlands different big 3d organization that have a promotion prices have a possibility to buy here  in a local retail store. Maxon cinema, 3d studio, Newtek lightwave etc.

Shipping costs $11.50 maximal.

Hope to hear from you.

Better write Smith Micro then and not the Rosity forum :)

Other than that.. sure it's unfair. And put import taxes on top of the shipping costs and you could easily end up paying more than the double. Which is why I personally chose the download version. Sure I lost the MAC version but since I have no MAC and no plans of ever getting one either, it doesn'tmatter much to me. And I saved a lot of money - almost enough to eventually buy the Mac version, should I so desire.

You could wait of course. With luck, Renderosity will carry it like they have done earlier with other programs. And perhaps their shipping costs are more humane?

I don't think it will have any effect when i write to SM.

Thats why i post here to collect as many european customers as possible, that have the same problem.

On the other hand it can be important for others here, to hear why digital download is limited to one platform.

It looks like they have no retail network in europe, but still will have the  european customers

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the cheapest quote for shipping they could get the way things are at the moment.

Fedex i think is a lot cheaper, and foreign normal post also.

But i think SM is afraid people customers  get in contact saying they received nothing at home.

UPS has a kind off guarantee for SM it ( the package )  is 100% delivered, and the customer has to pay for that.

If i order a musical software package in the US at Soundsonline.com i will pay 22.95 euro for shipping to the netherlands but shipped by Fedex.

And your reason for posting this here is why??? No one here can do anything for you. You'd be much better off writing to Smith Micro, the only entitiy who actually can do anything for you. Complaining here won't help you at all I'm afraid. Your best bet is to get in touch with Smith Micro. If we could somehow make them more sympathetic to you, or available to you, or responsive to you, perhaps we might, but we can't do a thing for you. Only the company that makes Poser can help you with this problem.

The thread is about all euopean customers, that will have this problem, not specifically me.

I can still afford buying the software , many people not, partly due to ridiculess shipping costs.

The reason for posting here is too see if there are a few or a lot off EU customers, that share the same thought.

If so, then there is enough reason to write to SM.

If not, then writing to SM will have not have any effect, because off an individual problem.

My expectation for now  is , any reaction here from a non EU member, will tell me this is not the place to post this.

I still hope any EU member will agree there is a post here about this real practical problem.

Try to imagine, you had to pay for all this kind off unfair shipping costs, in the past for all version, would you individually contact SM, expecting a solution.

Come on.

No this kind of organizations will take any complain maybe seriously :  if there are hundreds off complains.

Therefore this post.

A call for EU poser Customers, do you agree, or not agree with this kind off unfair shipping costs

If shipping to Europe via UPS is anything like using UPS to ship to Canada, a huge amount of the shipping price you are paying are the result of "Brokerage Fees."

I bought the 3-Axis Video Course for Poser 5. I was subject to S&H ($10.00), plus exchange and duty, which I expected. Imagine my surprise when UPS delivered and wanted a further $50.00 for Brokerage fees. That's how much they claim it cost them to process the paperwork at the border. That's almost 100% the rate of what I paid for the course which I think was $69 USD. PLUS it took 7 weeks to get here!

I could have had it shipped FedEx for $17.99 air shipping, and it would have arrived at my door in 2 days. PLUS there wouldn't have been any additional charges because FedEx included "Brokerage" in their shipping fees.

Another time I ordered a stethoscope which I had calculated out would be cheaper after paying exchange than if I had purchased it in Canada.  Unknowingly to me, the company shipped via UPS instead of USPS, which resulted in UPS trying to collect an additional $95 (50% of the value of the stethoscope) at my door in order to give me the package. Again, brokerage fees!!  I refused the parcel and contacted the company and told them the stethoscope was on their way back and why.

UPS is fine for shipping around the US, but when it comes to "international", it sucks!!!!

This is the reason I always get download versions of programs instead of the boxed physically shipped to me, unless of course the company uses FedEx and not UPS..

I asked a similar question a few days ago as my broadband connection sucks (result of old copper wiring from exchange, not ISP). When I got Poser 6 (owned by curious labs then I think) they had a distribution site in Ireland.  At the time everyone was joking that we were getting them a few weeks later because the Leprechauns had to bring them over by row boat. This meant that the shipping costs were lower, and I didn't have to pay import tax either. It looks as though Smith Micro does not have a similar structure in place. May have to download it instead. Not ideal.
Used to like the good old days wher you could go into PC World and buy your software upgrades in there (not Poser). Now everyone expects you to buy directly from them either via download or physical shipment.
I stopped buying upgrades for my Ulead software because I ordered a physical upgrade through their British online store, but for some reason it was shipped from Germany. By the time I had payed for shipping and import tax I would have been as well to buy the full version from PC World down the road!

In Britain we have: people who want broadband but can't get it, people who have it but cannot get decent speeds because of outdated phone lines/ exchanges etc and those who can get fast broadband but never use the internet or computers and don't understand why Gordon Brown wants tax payers to pay for improved lines.

I ordered the hybrid upgrade disc - shipping (to UK) was only $17.99, why is your charge so much more???.

Well as far as I remember shipping costs for P7 hybrid hardcopy to Germany was something about $45 (this was approx. 50% of P7 sale price). So I chose the download option, although I would have loved to have both, Mac and PC version as well.
