Subject: What`s your favourite freebie?

Sambucus ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 12:56 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 2:37 AM

Youve only got to look at my gallery to see how much use Ive got out of Ug! but Im also impressed with the work that goes into some other models which are then given away. Jedswindells ships spring to mind.  Kozs hair, of course.
And I dont mean the most prolific. It could be the only freebie from that artist. Whats your favourite. We may get some new pointers and at least this thread isn`t about  P8.

Great idea!

I'm about ready to unsubscribe from all the Poser 8 threads now. I just didn't want to miss anything!

I'm not a big freebie chaser (more fool me, there's some terrific stuff, I'm sure), but of all the freebies I've seen and used it would have to be Ladonna's Geisha Room. This image was done before I fixed a couple of poorly mapped textures on the walls, but still....

i was thinking of Aery Soul's Gothic Prision, which came out quite a few years ago. In the days of Vicki 2 iirc. (It's somewhat reminiscent of the round window from Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back done in stone instead of metal.) It seems like every other Poser Gallery image featured this excellent prop.

pakled ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 2:34 PM

Gad..I'm the freebie chaser (I've been making a database of what's installed in Poser; I'm at 6,000 Item's, and I'm only to 'D' in Poses...;)

I have used Ug at least once...;)  I dunno...but actually Baron von Harkonnens' Swat gear (and the other great freebie stuff at planet vixens) I've used excessively; especially when I don't want to spend half an hour looking for something to cover Vickies' bottom for her (hence the database...;)

You used to be able to download the outfits in Freebies here. I also use the second skins (characters) from whomever made Abigail, Onix, and all of those. I think they may be in freebies here as well.

Sadly, I'm starting to get to the point where I'm saying 'Will I really need this?" before loading it up...but that way lies madness...;)

My favorite freebies have always been the Japanese outfits for the various characters; V1 on up, Aiko, Maya Doll, Michael, Hiro....

I realize this isn't one particular thing, but it's as close as I can come...lol. If it weren't for all those wonderful Japanese contributors, my Maya Doll would be forever nekkid!! ;o). My favorites used to be BAT Laboratory and ISOP, but alas, ISOP is no more.

My most favourite atypical  freebie has got to be my collection of shaders, most particularly Bagginsbill's Candle Shader which I have been using in so many of my renders.  Next up would be his glass orb shader.

I have so many freebies installed in my runtimes, as well as many that I have archived "just in case" and I frequently browse through them and  install some periodically. There is no way I can pick just one out of all of them.  They are all appreciated.

I don't have one.  It's whichever one I'm using in the current scene that requires the least attention from me.  Most of my Runtime is freebies! LOLOLOLOL  A wide thank you to all you freebie creators out there!!  BB's skin shaders are most widely used by me, now.  So I guess his are the top of my heap.

OMG I forgot about VSS and bb's skin shaders. It's become so much an integral part of my Poser program that I no longer regard it as a freebie, but of course it is.

Yes, the VSS skin shader. Excellent stuff.

Believable3D ( ) posted Sun, 09 August 2009 at 5:57 PM

Definitely, VSS in first place.

Freebie hair is always appreciated. There's one in particular I like that's suitable for middle-ageish characters (Audry Hair) - just wonderful.

And scenes/furniture props are high on my list. Always nice.

My favourite Poser freebies are python scripts "SpawnCharacterP6.py" by ** svdl** is my all time favourite. The script works on figures that use PBMCC_## channels, e.g. most recent DAZ figures. This script spawns a new morph from the all the morphs applied to a figure, and creates a new INJ/REM pair to load the new morph. Thus you can load a character into the base figure without having to inject complete morph packs.

D3D's "Spawn FBM.py" is my second favourite. Amongst other things, it can spawn a morph target for every actor in the figure, including spawning morphs from magnets, and it has many options (not all of which work in P6). D3D has a heap of other useful scripts, as does ockham.

"MIchael 4 BLANK cr2 and Victoria 4.2 BLANK cr2" deserve an honourable mention.

The Poser file editor "CR2Builder" is another favourite freebie, as is "Morph Manager 4". English Bob's "Magic Morphin' Torus" is very useful and can be morphed into heaps of different shapes. My favourite free clothing comes from BAT laboratory and pjz99. And digitalbabes for hair.

Some of my most used freebies are my own, of these "MirrorMags32", "Tracker Cam" and "MinFig" are amongst the ones I find most useful.

I think my favourite freebie character of all time is Splud, from 3DU. He's no longer available, sadly, and he does have his issues in the rigging (which, over the years, I've been able to correct as I learn more and more about rigging myself), but he's just such a gosh darn neat little guy.

This is Spluddie with a specially-made texture as a prezzie for a friend who works at the company that built the Canadarm.

As far as freebie figures go... I think Antonia will be pretty tough to beat (at least if you're after a human figure)... though I'm sure a lot of folks would give the vote to Apollo (I don't use him, personally).

I downloaded Ali's GG3.1, but haven't loaded her up yet. She's dollish, but apparently there will be realism morphs for her too.

Believable3D ( ) posted Mon, 10 August 2009 at 2:03 PM

You need to have the VSS python scripts showing. This is for a bit earlier version, but the principles should be clear enough:

For me its sort of hard to pick one specific artist (they all are very unique and superb).  I do favor the ones for V3 (Well I still have and still learning Poser 5-after several years).  The head and body morphs, hair, conforming and dynamic clothing, figure and texture maps are excellent both for use and learning how they do it.  Jan

VSS and GenIBL would be my favorites, followed by the Artistic Lens.
Well, of course BB's wonderfull shaders.

Apart from BB's stuff, Kaweckis Morpher is the most used freebie in my toolset.

I think the freebie I've used most is probably a light set from Wax Productions (the site has gone now) - this set is used in almost all of the recent freebie previews on my site, which is the only rendering I seem to do nowadays.

A close second would probably be Vali's Mayte texture for V3 (who also seems to have disappeared), which is used in a slightly modified form on my "default" V3 model. Her hair is usually my own Flo Hair, but I hesitate to blow my own trumpet to such an extent. ;)

Apollo Maximus. The only thing wrong with him is that he isn't a female figure :-P (although Antonia looks like she will fill that void)

You've GOT to check out Antonia Acadia! ;o). Probably the most realistically proportioned figure I've seen yet, with the nicest bends and jcm's I've seen yet.

I'm am SO chomping at the bit to get hold of her...lol.

Considering how much work I do with magnets and morph creation, my favourite freebies include ockham's magnet-deletion script and the OBJ-to-morph script by Netherworks and svdl.  I certainly get a lot of use out of them.
