Subject: Opening P7 files in P8 question please?

Hi.  I hope this wasn't talked about already and I just couldn't understand it.  Or missed it
maybe.  But here goes.

Let's say I created a character, a figure in P7 named Janet.  I don't do anything fancy or
complicated.  I start out with Sydney, play around in the face room, adjust the skin tone in
the material room with shades of gray, add hair, and that's it.  I'll save that new figure
as Janet Base Nude.  That's always my main file for that character.

But now, when I try to open that file in P8, it asks me to find that file, Janet Base Nude,
and it won't load anyway.  Only the hair will load.  Maybe I should mention that I've installed
all my external runtimes with no problem where the hair is located.

Anybody else having this problem?

Is there perhaps a way I can save the file differently in P7 before attempting to open in P8?

Or maybe more broadly, is anybody else encountering difficulties opening P7 files in P8?

Has this been talked about?

Is there another thread on this somewhere?

Thank you.

I had similar problems while my search options (in "general preferences") were on "shallow". It seems that Poser 8 is not able to follow paths of the older kind, so it needs to search for each item, even if the item needed is in the same folder.

In short, yes, I had similar problems in the beginning, I either solved them by changing the search to deep (Poser general prefs), or it happened on it's own as P8 got used to my P6 runtime and eventually listed everything which was in there;

Thank you, rty.

I just checked and I'm set on deep already.

And it's weird.  You talked about P8 getting used to your P6 runtime.  I just tried opening
another one, a different character, and it opened like a charm.  Weird.  Happily weird.  :)

I'm gonna' keep tinkering though and monitoring the forum.

Thank you!

Maybe (but we're entering Poser superstitions domain here) it needs some time to parse the whole runtime?
I only know that in the beginning I had those errors all the time, but after a while they just disappeared.

LOL.  You know what?  I believe it.  I never heard anybody talk about it before.  But you really
had me contemplating this program having a little fun with me maybe.  Heh heh.

But now I'm just gonna' save all my Base Nude files in P8 separately and go from there.  I
think I've saved every pose in all my available environments in P7 anyway so it was really
getting a little crowded and confusing in there anyway.  As if I'd never be able to recreate
any of those scenes ever, ever again, you know?  LOL.

Alright.  Thanks again.
