try to save it as Png without merging the layers, this should solve your problem. Otherwise save it as tiff with transparency, then open the tiff and save it as ping.

With difficult .png's[ and I do encounter about 1 a month] I generally open them in the free Irfan software and their Save as>png dialogue has the option to select the transparent colour. If nothing else works..try that.. ...

you do have to "check" the TRANSPARENCY check box in the save dialog box. (you need to do this through the "save-for-web" NOT "save-as") when selecting PNG.
see example:
hope it helps

I never "save for web" when I save png's, I always "save as" and I never encountered that problem... I'm stumped as to why it does this when you do, it's odd...

Yes, I read Retrocity's post, but what I'm saying is that you should usually be able to save a transparent png without having to use the "save for web" and checking the transparency box, just by using "save as". I do it all the time, I don't use the save for web at all for my png's and what's transparent always remains transparent so there has to be a reason why Sambucus is getting a white background when he uses "save as"?

I`ve created an image using a few layers, merged it and saved it as a PNG file. When I copy it into my background it has no transparency, it is just the image on a white square. What am I doing wrong?
