Subject: Why would we scale lights...?

DarkEdge ( ) posted Mon, 10 August 2009 at 7:27 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 7:41 AM

I'm noticing that some fill IBL lights in Poser 8 are scaled down in size, what function/purpose does that serve?

As far as I can tell, by default, infinite and IBL are scaled to 55% and the other 100%
I use scale on point lights to see them better when positioning.  The scale does not save and not appear to change function

I scale my point and spotlights up so that I can see them. :)

Good question. Does scaling the lights affect the size of light in the same manner as a Big light bulb and a small night light?

Certain lights come in like this and there must be a reason, I was hoping those in the know would answer this for us!
Oh well...wishful thinking, eh? 😉

Maybe I don't explain so good, so try again.

Scaling is for the light indicator only!

for honest I don't know why they pick 55% for default scale on infinite lights.
But think, you can't scale anything infinite anyway, the circle for infinite distance lights (of which IBL is member) is to help you plan.  The physical origin act like infinite distance away.

If you look on page 201 of Poser 8 manual it tell you not affecting light.

If you save scene file with scaled lights, they reset to default scale when you reload, so is only ment for temporary use.
